Having booked to stay here tonight we stayed exactly 16mins. Room rate £80 they took £92.50 . Put us in gatehouse.walls peeling cobwebs in bath.mirror OFF the wall. Asked to be moved told can't. Left to secure other hotel on own in the rain at 3.15pm. Staff acted as if it was the norm..and refunded money. Glad to get out of there. Came to the New Inn at Heckfield same price million times better and only 5mins away....

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and am sorry to read you concerns regarding your visit.

The receptionist did try to explain to you regarding the room rate and additional pre authorsation for room extra whilst checking you in, but this has clearly been missed during the conversation on your arrival. Please be assured that this is standard procedure but am sorry for any miscommunication.

I was very sorry to learn that you decided to leave immediately. At the time, the team were trying to locate you another room from the Lodge that you had booked. I can see that the room had some flaking paint which has now been addressed, as had the small cobweb that was discovered in the room. Please be assured that we have got very stringent cleaning rota's in place but am sorry that you encountered these 2 issues.

Regards

Steven

I agree with earlier reviews that this is a hotel with potential that does not live up to its beautiful surroundings and deceptively grand exterior.

We arrived late on a Friday to find that we were not going to be staying in the main house, but in the “Lodge” which was the old gatekeepers lodge on the main road, some distance from the hotel reception.

The lodge is absolutely rancid and in need of a deep clean. I have attached a picture of one of the curtains and what looks like some sort of dehumidifier to soak up the condensation which was just in the middle of the floor. The room we were in smelt unpleasant, and had huge chunks of paint missing from the walls. The bed was very small and uncomfortable and although there was a dressing table, the chair was wedged so hard underneath it that I couldn’t pull it out to use it.

The bathroom was average and not particularly clean.

The windows were single glazed and backed on to a busy road which meant that it was either stifling or cooler but with traffic noise.

I asked on arrival whether we could be moved to the main hotel but the answer was no as the hotel was booked up with wedding guests who were prioritised over us. We were attending a wedding close by so it would not have been practical to ask for a refund and look elsewhere.

The ironing facilities were cheap and nasty and I sliced my thumb open trying to open the ironing board.

A real shame as the grand exterior of the main hotel looks so promising when you arrive but this is a dated, dirty and uncomfortable hotel that I would certainly not recommend or revisit.

We were not asked any questions about our stay on checkout.

Literally this hotel’s only saving grace is the beautiful grounds in which it is situated.

Visited with friends a couple of weeks ago.

We stayed in the building down the road whilst our friends were situated in the main house.

The rooms were ok at best and the building reminded me of a budget chain but less clean.

The main building and hotel was nice but in parts was crying out for a upgrade.

Staff were pleasant and under the circumstances a bit pushed so service suffered.

Food was good in the evening and breakfast was a bit chaotic.

Overall so much more potential with some investment and more staff.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay.

We are currently in the middle of refurbishing the Grange where you stayed and have already got 20 rooms done out of 43 so we are half way there, with only a few weeks to go until they are all done.

We are continually investing into the Mansion House and have more works that will start shortly to further enhance. The Mansion bedrooms were all refurbished last year and look incredible.

We hope that you will pay us another visit soon and see all of the works taken place.

Best wishes

We stayed here for two nights in April 2018. Only a visit here will actually sum up how stunning the building and its grounds are. If we weren't already married I'd seriously consider it as a wedding venue and we live about an hour and a half away! We were very lucky with the weather too which shone a beautiful light on the place. Very friendly staff, particularly the manager who went to great lengths to ensure our stay was perfect. Food great. Spa soon to be built and we'll be coming back for sure! Highly recommended.

We have stayed here before ( about a couple of years ago) and were happy to return for a couple of nights to be near family. Reception staff were friendly and efficient but when we got to our room in Grange 2 it turned out to be a single room. This was quickly rectified, but not a good start to our stay. The room was pleasant enough except for a very inferior shower and an unpleasant outbreak of ants! Not sure we would come back
