We stopped off for lunch on our way to South Wales and chose this place because of its proximity to the M4. It is in a perfect location to break your journey if you are travelling on the M4 or M5. The village is pretty and the pub is quaint. There is ample parking right opposite the pub, so no problems there. We all found the food to be really tasty and it was cooked freshly. The portions were a good size and were reasonably priced. I had the burger which was simply delicious. Others in the party had the flatbread pizza, so I was able to try that as well. It was very, very good. My husband had the Toad in the Hole, and whilst I didn’t try it, he said it was really tasty. Highly recommended.

Having eaten here a number of times the food is consistently good and the atmosphere always lively. Sunday lunch is very good and the menu change and stays fresh.

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will be returning.

I’ve given this pub good reviews in the past , but regretfully can’t anymore . The staff are great and friendly but the brewery has decided to make this more of a hotel/ restaurant bar rather than a friendly pub for both locals and those visiting from further afield . The cost of the drinks are now more expensive that the Aztec West hotel . a comparable pint in a very local pub nearby ( which is as pretty ) is nearly £1 a pint less . Even Butcombes own pubs down the road are significantly cheaper . So if you visit once a year and your Aztec based business is paying then you’ll be fine , but don’t expect the ambiance and buzz of a busy friendly local very often in future

Sorry you felt you weren't able to leave a good review. Butcombe have endeavoured to fulfil the needs for all there guests and we try to still maintain the ambience and buzz of a busy but friendly local.
We hope you will give us another chance to prove that we are still the same business with the same friendly team.

This newly acquired Butcombe pub is set in a lovely village location of Almonsbury very near to M5/4 motorway junction. Pub very smart and friendly welcome from the team and ask for car park ticket before dining.
Good pub food on offer with great choice of beers. I'm sure things will improve once new owners start implementing changes. Will come back.

I haven’t been here for a number of years, but it seems to have gone down hill. I only had ham egg and chips but the eggs were over cooked and the chips tasted like they were cooked in old oil. But, I must say the honey roasted ham was very nice quiet thick cut and very tasty..so thumbs up. Very quiet in the bar and restaurant on a Tuesday evening.. might try again in the summer
