From my initial enquiry Dianne the owner has always been very helpful and professional. She welcomed us shortly after our arrival and even though the owners live close by it still felt very private. 5 couples visited to celebrate two of our birthdays.
The house has been a labour of love for Dianne, transforming her former childhood home into The Gables Retreat and this really shows as every room has been beautifully decorated and dressed with much thought and style. She has even inspired some of our group to start re-decorating their own homes!
The house felt so warm and cosy when we arrived with lights on with a wonderful hamper ready and waiting for us.
Straight away we felt at home and enjoyed the house and the Jacuzzi despite the cold weather, it was wonderful! If you are planning to visit as a group it's ideal as it has plenty of room for everyone. We spent most of our time in the kitchen dining room as we could all be together and the cooks didn't feel left out whilst cooking all 10 breakfasts!
We enjoyed it so much we have already re-booked to go again to celebrate a special birthday in October. Although we did look at alternative accommodation for October as we wondered if its ever the same going back to the same place a second time, we quickly came to the conclusion after much research that quite simply we just couldn't beat this house and so we booked up quickly as I think everyone who stays here seem to be going back and obviously are thinking the same as us. It has everything you need to have a great time away from busy lives. We all left feeling really relaxed and very happy.
We would highly recommend staying at The Gables Retreat, you will not be disappointed by the house or the owners, they are truly lovely people.

We enjoyed a great family get together at the beautiful Gables Retreat, and were made to feel very welcome in every way.
This is certainly 5* accommodation, from the welcome hamper to luxurious bedrooms and the large hot-tub, as well as the tennis court.
We would definitely recommend and are already planning our next visit.

A n amazing welcome, candles & Christmas tree lights lit, Carols playing as we opened the door.. Apart from a food hamper, there was a fresh cream roulade waiting in one of the fridges. In addition to this Diane had wrapped gifts for each of the children, & left a cuddly toy on their pillows. All of these thoughtful touches got our Christmas off to a great start. Everything about this fabulous house is first class. The tennis court & hot tub were fully utilized for the whole stay., as were the wood burner & log fire. The 12 seater dining table was just great for us all , as were the 2 extremely comfortable sitting rooms, which meant no arguments over Christmas tv programmes! All this said, the biggest plus of all was all of our large family under the one roof.Just wish we could do it every year!

Three couples, five children; early Nov 2013.
We had a great time at The Gables Retreat and highly recommend it to anyone thinking about booking.
The house is fantastic - loads of space, tastefully decorated, all fittings etc to a high standard - a solid modern farm house.
The hosts were very accommodating and friendly.
Lots of little touches around the house which indicated they care / are interested in you having an enjoyable break.
I expect we will be repeat bookers for our annual friends catch up.

2 reviews The Gables Retreat is a beautiful place to go. There were 10 of us and we had plenty of space to relax in comfort. The owners were very welcoming and went the extra mile to ensure that our stay was perfect! Thank you very much for the attention to detail which made our week there so enjoyable.
