We stayed on a great value break with Travelzoo. Very pleasant location, easy to find and set in nice grounds. Staff friendly and helpful. We paid extra £10 per night for an executive room which was well worth it. Clean, spacious with good facilities. Delicious food in restaurant and good value particularly so as a free bottle of wine was included. Drinks in the bar were a bit pricey but in fairness they have to claw back something due to the accommodation being such good value. Would definitely recommend!

This hotel is well located for access into York and surrounding areas. The setting of the hotel is very nice and quiet. The hotel itself is clean and tidy and offers a good selection of food at relatively fair prices. The biggest downside for me is the bedrooms are very tired. They need modernising quite a bit. They are clean and tidy, but the beds are small. Many of the rooms have a fixed headboard with side tables attached. these are so close to the bed you could hurt your head and arms on them, as I did. To get a good nights sleep, I simply pulled the bed forward away from the headboard/side tables. This would not have been too much of an issue if just one person was in the double bed, but my wife and I found it a little cramped, especially with these fixed side tables.
If the hotel can afford to upgrade all the bedrooms, change the doors to the rooms and decorate/ modernise the rooms and hallways to the rooms, this place would be fantastic. A higher cost to stay would also easily be justified.

A quiet location on the far outskirts of York. We came here on a ' deal'. Afternoon tea of scones, jam and cream was nothing special. It was served in the bar with a background of both a loud TV and simultaneously piped music!! One or the other please! We'd booked an upgraded room with robes, slippers and better toiletries. None of these were provided so we rang reception who delivered them fairly quickly. George on reception was most helpful, a nice chap too. Our shower wasn't secure to the wall and took ages to adjust to a steady temperature. Breakfast, oh dear! Black pudding was so dried out under the buffet heater, both mornings of our stay. Bacon was the same although my husband said it was nice and juicy on day two. I didn't risk it and ordered porage. Don't expect Scott's Porrge Oats, it was tiny tasteless flakes. I would say the bed was comfy and the room size comfortable. A visit to York Bird of Prey centre, next door was very enjoyable.

Stayed here for two nights on a good weekend offer. Ate in the hotel restaurant the first night. Food was delicious and good value, large portions. Staff were very professional but friendly. Breakfast was good but missed having a little pastry. Nice grounds. Room very clean with nice fluffy towels. Could do with some more seating in the reception area. All in all a lovely weekend. Would definitely recommend

We stayed for a couple of nights during the Easter school holidays. Oh room was ok, clean and comfortable, bathroom ok and plenty of hot water. We had paid for bead and breakfast as part of our deal but the breakfast was certainly not worth paying for. Dry poor quality of sausage, bacon and the bread was the cheapest type of bread money can buy and tasteless with it. It would better to have breakfast cooked to order to avoid waste and offer good quality products.
Service was excellent at reception but a bit grumpy in the breakfast dining room. Ar staff were lovely too. We asked for suggestions for evening meals and restaurants and pubs to go to locally but were met by a complete lack of knowledge. Maybe this could be researched and offered as a feature to guests.
Good location but a shame we weren’t told about the birds of prey tour when we arrived as we would have enjoyed this.
Overall rather cheap and cheerful, not luxurious or romantic really.

Room tip: Ground floor rooms are noisy.
