Location fine. Main building bedrooms must be noisy as on the road.

The courtyard extension at the back is quiet, provided you are on an upper floor. It must have been built 50 years ago. Courtyard itself is atrocious. All hanging baskets contained dead flowers, and the poor pine tree will not survive long. Cigarette butts everywhere.

Queen size bed too soft and not big enough for two mature people

Breakfast OK but only one girl service and rushed off her feet. Breakfast room very attractive with exposed beams.

Pub itself fine, although carpeting worse than frayed.

Regret that I would not bother to come back unless they pull down the extension and start again

Room Tip: Choose an upper floor room in the courtyard

Clare is a nice old town with some interesting shops and plenty of pubs and restaurants. The Bell is centrally located and there's plenty of parking. It's an old building which has been extended and if your room is in the old part, at the front, there is quite a steep staircase to get to the rooms. Our room had a comfortable bed but the furnishings were old and basic, including a phone that appeared to be from the last century. The bathroom was not too impressive, being rather dark and having a noisy macerator. On the subject of noise, there was quite a commotion during the night as customers from the bar partied inside and outside. This seems to be an ongoing problem for the business. Breakfast was good but not outstanding. Staff were generally OK.

Disappointing family room in courtyard with broken furniture in bedroom. Untidy appearance in courtyard with overgrown weeds in car park and dead hanging baskets at front of hotel. New Ensuite bathroom with power shower compensated for this. Room tended to be hot at night due to piping running along bedroom wall into bathroom.

Service was generally poor throughout our 3 night stay and we only had one evening meal in the bar area on our first night. We had to skip breakfast on our last morning before checking out as there was nobody available to serve this.

Room Tip: Avoid courtyard rooms in car park.

I have visited The Bell several times in the last few years, for a quick drink, or when using the function room as part of a group, and I have eaten lunch there too.
The food was excellent, the service great, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Worth a visit.

I recently stayed at The Bell for a business trip. It is located in a beautiful little town with plenty of places to walk and explore. The rooms were extremely spacious and luxury, tv and sky. After a long day it was fabulous not to be confined to a bed and had both chairs and a sofa. Toiletries and tea making facilities were fabulous. The best part of the stay were the staff they are very accommodating, friendly and helpful and you are made to feel very welcome. The bar and restaurant were perfect, the food was fabulous and they had a large selection of drinks. Not only will I stay here again for work I would more than happily stay here for a UK break. I would recommend The Bell as a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.
