If I'm honest check in was terrible! We'd been travelling 24 hours up until that point and it took forever to check in. They also charged us 1000 thai baht a night as a deposit which they apparently return within 2 weeks of your stay but this was completely unexpected (not mentioned in our booking) and I'm still not sure why it's necessary given that most large hotels only take a swipe of your card as a deposit. And to top it off our room wasn't ready so it was not the best welcome to Thailand.

However, from that point on, the hotel was excellent. Our room was a large family room with its own plunge pool which was just amazing and a lovely way to end the day. The bathroom was gorgeous. Our room was a stone's throw from the gorgeous swimming pool and breakfast facilities and was very comfortable and well serviced.

The pool was large and had a gorgeous setting. In fact the entire resort is well landscaped and is such a pleasure to meander through on the way to the beach/shops. The pool was a little deep in places for our young family (at 3 metres) but we spent hours messing around in it.

The free kids club was excellent too and our children begged to go every day. Some activities were extra (such as batik printing?!) but worth it and you didn't have to participate. The staff were all lovely and very welcoming too.

Breakfast was a feast with every sort of food under the sun which really stocked us up for the day.

The hotel is in an excellent location. Just over the road from Karon beach with plenty of shops, markets, restaurants and bars all with in walking distance.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and had a fantastic holiday. I'd therefore highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Karon or phuket.

Another absolutely delightful holiday at Movenpick Karon Beach. We had a beautiful garden villa outside the Coconut Pool, we loved it. On arrival we had a Welcome Home sign on our villa door and our was such a nice touch.
Everything was exceptional once again and we hope to be back in the not too distant future.
Food in all restaurants is top quality, pools are very clean and whole property is beautifully maintained. Maybe some music by the pool would be nice.
We love this resort and recommend for couples, friends and families.
Thank you for making our holiday a memorable time once again.

We arrived late last night and even though we were tired we just did not feel that welcome compared to other Thai hotels. We were also really disappointed when we got to the room as it was so musty which meant that we had to changes rooms at 12.30 at night. The new room smelt better but it just feels a little worn - that plus the fact that the toilet was blocked. Breakfasts are ok - a wide range but it just feels mass produced. Pools are lovely but they were busy (to be expected at this time of year). Pool side buzzers don't seem to work - or if they do it took ages to place an order. Again food was average - chicken satay was full of gristle and some of the chips were uncooked. So all in all a little disappointed as we had travelled all the way from Cambodia for a bit of relaxation. Maybe I am was spoilt as I have stayed in the Anantara in Hua Hin and Bangkok and it just feels miles ahead - more than the half star rating difference. I feel bad writing this as it's such a case of first world problems but worth sharing.

We recently stayed in a Garden Villa for 10 nights with 2 adults and 2 kids under 9.
We had a Luxury Escapes Package which was excellent.
We went with a large group so got to see what a lot of the other rooms were like.
The garden villa was great but would probably opt for the plunge pool villa next time just for the extra space and being able to sit by the plunge pool while the kids are asleep.
The resort only supply bedding and a day bed for 1 child so we brought a single airbed, pump, blanket and sheet for our 2nd child in our luggage or there was a cost of AUD$56 a night for a fold away bed. The plunge pool villas day bed is bigger also.
We opted for the half board which we thought meant Breakfast, Dinner, 2 cocktails per adult a day and no lunch. But you could change it and have lunch or cocktails(or any drink on the drinks menu). So if were there for lunch we'd use our voucher or if we missed Lunch opted for the cocktails (or Red/White Wine etc).
The buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner was included for adults and under kids under 7 but over 7 had to pay with 20% off (so about 220THB or AUD$9)
They have the same kids menu at all restaurants for lunch and dinner except for Dinner at OrientAsia. This has an Asian buffet which my kids loved as they could get a Fresh Stir Fry cooked right in front of them.
The pools are great and the place is kept immaculate.
Thanks Movenpick for a great stay My family absolutely loved it.

Room Tip: Go with a Plunge Pool Villa and if you want pool side drinks use the swim up bar as they can take a while to serve you at the Coconut Pool.

We are partway through a stay at Movenpick and are having a wonderful, relaxing time.
The pros - the pool is fantastic, quiet location, beautiful gardens, super friendly staff (a few language barriers but their English is far better than my Thai so I'm okay with that) and comfy beds. The breakfast buffet is really good as are the other meals we've had here both in room service, by the pool and the restaurants.
The cons - the rooms are definitely due for a refurb as they are rather worn looking, the ice-cream is ridiculously expensive which given the name of the hotel was a surprise.
The big con ... The showers are not good. Shower pressure in the main building is very poor for a 5 star hotel and the water temperature fluctuates. I would want to be careful if I was showering a child. We talked to the front desk staff who tried to help and offered a room change in the same building or a Villa. We weren't sure the Villa would help and really wanted ocean view. A room change in the building to a higher floor following an engineers suggestion provided no real difference in shower quality. As the rainfall shower by the pool is great we now presume it's just the main building that is poor. We did choose to live with a this poor shower quality however as we love the view
