The menu at this family run restaurant is simple, a good confident sign that the dishes are prepared in house by the chef rather than brought in or pre-frozen. The fare is delicious and seems to go beyond the more usual local menus of meat and polenta, offering excellent quality steaks, delicious and delicate starters (try the crepes alla valdostana for the lightest crepe with the creamiest and tastiest but not overpowering cheese sauce, or any of the hand made pasta dishes).
Re the ambiance, softer lighting in the evening (maybe candles on the tables?) would add even more to the lovely atmosphere, and as the light falls, would take over from the stunning sunset views of Mt Blanc which guests can enjoy from the huge restaurant windows.
The restaurant opens to non residents after about 8.15.
We have no hesitation in recommending Les Combes to anyone on holiday in the Aosta Valley. A good quality, reasonably priced restaurant experience.
