excellent base to visit the highlands. Very well equipped and furnished to a high standard lovely house. Great back garden for those with young children or if bringing your dog totally safe. Would recommend it to anyone.

We (two adults and two boys aged 18 and 13) stayed for three nights in July 2013. Booking the premises was relatively easy by contacting the owners however if you use paypal ensure that the owners are aware when you have paid money as paypal seems to lag behind a bit.

The premises was as advertised and was very easy to find and enter. The furnishings are lovely and the rooms were spotlessly clean. The rooms are full of little 'extra touches' making it feel like home.

There are books and magazines galore as well as tourist information and the owners left a folder with very clear instructions on how to use the washing machine, water heaters etc. etc.

The premises couldn't be closer to the harbour and for those that enjoy sea angling the pier is just a one minute walk. Furthermore there is very little seaweed so there is little chance of losing expensive spinners and tackle.

The village itself has pubs, a grocery , a restaurant and a fishing tackle shop. It's very nice. Nearby Golspie and Brora are worth a visit as is John O'Groats. Our favourite trip was driving up Glen Loth to Kildonnan and then coming back down by the Helmsdale River. However, I wouldn't attempt it in a low slung sports car or if the weather conditions were adverse.

The TV works fine, and the internet wifi connection was fairly fast and reliable.

We absolutely loved the place and would recommend it to friends and family.....we would certainly stay there again. We thought it was very good value for money.

“Fantastic house in a beautiful location”

We spent a week at the Hoose and it was a real home from home. Helmsdale is a great location for exploring the area. We managed to go fishing, horse riding, gold panning, climb Ben Braggen, visit John O'Groats and even had a glorious day of sunshine on the beach in Golspie! Whilst Brora and Golspie nearby have lovely beaches, we found Helmsdale quieter and more relaxing. It was just bliss after a day's activities to come home, get a glass of wine and sit at the front of the hoose, just watching the sea or reading our books. A week full of lovely family memories. Highly recommended.
