Beautiful forest and happy to see that a small part of real Puglian forest survived. Large oak and beech trees, dense forest. Great place for hikes. But incredible that even here the Italians dump their old furniture, garbage and fridges along the forest roads Large parts of Puglia seem to be transformed in garbage areas

The address indicated is not the right one: to see the deers and walk around the lake, go to "C. Forestale" (See pictures of the map), South of town Vico del Gargano.
You can get free guides from the tourist office.
Being with a baby, we only did a 1 hour easy walk around the lake. Ask the guard for the start of the path as it is not very well indicated.

After driving through millions of olive trees in southern Italy, we googled wild forest in Italy and discovered this National Park. We stayed in Mont Sant'Angelo and drove to the park by a lovely winding mountain road. We purchased a very poor map from the visitor centre and went for a lengthy circular walk. We managed to become a little lost, but Google Maps helped us back to the car. The forest is a magical deciduous wood filled with birdsong and easy trails. We saw wild cats and a fox. Worth driving through with a short walk or day long hikes.

This forest is vast and it takes nearly an hour just to drive from South to North. Unusually for this part of the world there are lots of beech trees, and if you're lucky you can see deer, wild boar and even wolves

It's a huge expansive area of woodland, much of it very quiet and where few people seem to venture. Subsequently some of the minor tracks seem to disintegrate and disappear.

Many ruins to explore and wildlife to see. We were lucky enough to see some young wild boar piglets foraging.

Some walking routes are well marked and in places there are some good parking spots. Shame about fly tipping alongside the road in certain spots.
