“Charming, well-preserved castle”

TO SEE: the small village in Soncino, the beautiful and majestic Rocca Sforzesca, the basement, the mill and the Museum of printing. The entrance costs 5€, without guidance, following explanatory signs that there are along the route you can climb up the towers. The castle is bare inside but is well preserved. This castle is not on a hill, but rather on the edge of town surrounded by more modern buildings. Admission prices are very reasonable and are even discounted further in the middle of the week. We enjoyed our visit and especially liked climbing up the towers (it's nice that in the restoration they have improved a couple staircases with sturdy, even steps). There are portions of "fresco" painting visible where the chapel was formerly. In addition, there is a furnished bedroom from that time period. We also enjoyed being able to walk in the moat around the castle.

The castle was built around 1470 and is all brick. Inside is a little poor but worth seeing (the medieval bedroom is quite nice). Also you can see the whole village from the top. Inside are two museums that are ok. The ticket price includes entrance at museo del stampa and another small medieval situated near the cathedral. Some scenes of the movie Lady hawk were filmed at Rocca Sforzesca.

Single preserved castle that is to be found in the whole region. Definetely worth a visit when you are in the region of Brescia, be sure to check out the restaurant named 'La Cantina' in Soncino as well, you will enjoy your meal and your visit to this beautiful place!

The castle is only one part of this charming little town. The castle proper can be viewed in less Han an hour. I found the primary attraction to be how few people were here. There were two mid-sized school groups there on a Thursday morning, otherwise the place was very quiet. They are reworking the museum section as of this review so there was only one room staged//recreated in the style of when the castle was in use. Apparently it was used for several films, although I have yet to here which films were set there. I liked that I could get photos free of people easily so could bring out my artistic side and imagination.
Outside the castle you can find other interesting sites such as the printing museum and a couple of churches. This may be a less visited site, which in my mind makes it a great choice as an example of a small Italian town.
