We loved our stay at Thordisa Cottage. We always feel lucky to be able to bring our dog (Mollie) and enjoy time with her too. Without her we wouldn't have booked this cottage so thank you to the owner for allowing this.
The cottage was so quirky and very cosy. The kitchen is very well equipped and we do a lot of cooking so are reliant on this BUT if you want to go out for a meal (which we did) there are various places (so close by) which enables you to do that too.
The double bed was so so comfortable. We haven't slept like that for ages. The pub (The Hart and almost next door) was much better than we expected. It was so warm and had a really good atmosphere.
There isn't any outside space but we knew this so this was not a negative point. It just made us get up and out to take the dog for a walk. So, actually a positive thing.
We would love to go back at some point.
Great cottage. Close to beach &amenaties. Going again in October with friends for walking weekend. Would make a cosy getaway in the winter months. Good pub &restaurants near by. Whitby within walking distance.
Sandsend is definitely a place you'd want to go back to, and we found Thordisa comfortable and relaxing. Car parking for two small cars outside the cottage and just a short walk to the beach cafes. Dog friendly beaches and the coastal path just a few minutes away.
Poor WiFi and TV signal but as we were lucky with the weather it didn't matter too much. Plenty kitchen equipment although a bit random. We would have preferred a pint of milk rather than a bottle of wine on arrival...though it was very nice thank you. There were quite a few left over jars and packets in the larder (which I sorted through and binned) yet only one dishwasher tablet. Beds were extremely comfortable, good quality bedding... no noise from nearby road or pub. There was an info folder but it would have been good to have more on local area.
This cottage is in a great location but is just off the main road in Sandsend and this was noisy at night. Layout was ok, the stairs are windy and double height and you need good mobility in order to navigate them. Whilst the cottage sleeps 6 there are not enough chairs in the living room for 6 adults to sit, there is a large sideboard which I would get rid of and put a larger sofa in its place.
We needed to buy washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets in the kitchen, otherwise it was well equipped.
Bedrooms are a good size especially the master, it is ensuite but this is up another flight of stairs. The main bathroom was ok, could have done with a shelf to put items on but the shower was hot and maintained a good pressure.
There was a dehumidifier on the landing and this needed to be constantly on and it did need emptying several times so maybe some instructions for this would be useful.
This cottage has no outside space which is a shame but otherwise it is a really lovely place in a great spot.
Couldn't beat the location quirky cottage 2 staircases over three floors. Bedrooms on first floor great but top bedroom a bit more basic. Layout didn't suit us being two families whichever way we tried it we finished up with a bedroom on one floor and a bathroom on another. Overall lovely place.
