“Amazing!!!”
Reviewed 2 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed in the lakehouse as part of a wedding party, with the wedding taking place in the main hall.

The house really is amazing. Very high spec. From the stunning kitchen (with aga and 2nd standard oven/hob too!) to the ipad controlled speakers / tv's! You can play your music from iPad/iPhone through the speakers in each room.

Even at full occupancy you don't feel on top of each other as every room is on the large side! All the bedrooms are of a good size too.

The grounds of the hall are beautiful and lovely to have a relaxing walk around. There are also paths directly from the estate to Whitby or Sandsend.

The only thing that would improve it would be a hot tub outside (it looks like there maybe was one once??).

The estate is very accommodating to every need, highchair delivered as soon as we asked and a BBQ arranged for us again straightaway! The BBQ was a really good large industrial style one too.

Cleaners great too, even put the dishwasher on for us one day!

Things to watch out for...the house gets really hot, not sure if it's the aga or not but it was turned off and it didn't get any cooler and we weren't staying in particularly hot weather although it was May. The hot water is ridiculously hot, in fact pretty dangerous for young children so you really have to be careful. On another note for children, you can close the gate to the drive making the outside space secure so no worries of them easily getting to the lake. The small garden area to the rear of the property could do with being better maintained. It looks like there used to be veg planted there which would be lovely to be able to go pick some fresh veg to go with your meals. There's a little herb garden outside which is really useful.

We have just spent the most amazing time at the Lakehouse. It was booked as an all girls holiday, celebrating a year of special birthdays and celebrations. The place was wonderful, large roomy bedrooms , plenty of space for 12 people to mingle and not bump into each other. Slight problem with enough hot water on 2 occasions, however staff remedied the problem very quickly. All staff were very helpful , concierge Richard was exceptionally helpful and obliging. Afternoon tea in the hotel was very well presented and catered for gluten free guests without any problem. Great to be able to walk into Sandsend and Whitby for fish and chips and sightseeing. Great location and all round exceptional stay. We will definitely be back.

We stayed at The Lake House in January for a family celebration there were twelve of us in the party. On arrival we were taken to the house by a very informative, freindly member of staff who made us very welcome and explained how to use the Ipad for T/V's, and other advice we needed to know. All fixtures and fittings are of a very high quality the bedrooms spacious and all have flat screen T/V's. Although we were a large party there was lot's of space for us all with the large upstairs lounge and adjoining dining room. We loved the kitchen which is very spacious and has a 12 seater dining suite where we did gather most of the time. We cooked there each evening and used the AGA stove and also the conventional oven, there are plenty of cooking utensils, crockery and glasses and is very well equiped, also there is a large american fridge freezer so plenty of storage for fresh foods. Lake House grounds are very peacefull and nice walks around the estate, we walked into Whitby most day's and came back by taxi. In the evening we did walk to the Hotel for drinks where we found the staff to be freindly and efficient and the bar comfortable to relax in. We all have only positive feedback about our stay and would reccomend The Lake House to others wanting to stay in a large property in this area.

What a wonderful place for a gathering of family and friends.
The house is stunning in a peaceful rural location not far from the sea/beach. Spotlessly clean, well equipped to a very high spec. The staff were welcoming, informative and extremely helpful.
The only possible negative; lack of boot/cloaks room /laundry room,we were lucky with the weather so wasn't too bad. we used the garage for muddy boots etc which sufficed.

“Comfortable luxury in a perfect setting”

I recently stayed at the property with friends and family to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. There were 10 adults and 1 child in the house and, due to the size of the property, it never felt crowded.

Location - the house is perfectly located to explore the coast & local villages by car or on foot. We walked into Whitby one afternoon along the beach and both Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay are only a short drive away. If you want a shorter walk, there are the main hotel grounds to explore and the resident Alpacas to see. The house grounds are well tended and there was ample parking - we had 5 cars but you could fit more vehicles on the driveway if needed.

Facilities - the house is immaculately decorated and furnished. Every bedroom and bathroom/WC was of a good size and the beds are all huge! (and very comfortable - they can be set up as doubles or twins). The entertainment systems are controlled from an iPad, which is given to you on arrival (there are instructions on how to use this if you aren't techie) and there is a TV in every room, including the kitchen and upstairs dining room. Wi-Fi signal was good and easy to connect. There were plenty of toiletries provided (Molton Brown) and on arrival, a welcome hamper was waiting for us which was a nice touch. Despite it being cold outside on one of the days we were there we never had to turn on the heating or light any of the fires, the big Aga in the kitchen seems to keep the whole house warm and, despite its size, it always felt cosy.

The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for your stay. There is a huge double fridge & deep freezer and a choice of ovens and hobs, depending on what you are comfortable using. We found there was 1 piece of kitchen equipment that we needed which was missing but after mentioning it to the hotel reception, a member of staff turned up the same day with the said equipment - brilliant service! It was only something small but what more could you ask. I have since also been contacted by a member of staff from the estate to ask how we enjoyed our stay & if we had any feedback, which was also a nice touch (thank you Eleanor).

Great stay and a wonderful property. I have stayed in a few cottages and this is by far the best for a large group - definitely worth a 5 star rating. Would recommend and would definitely return.
