Not four star and bigotted manager- like staying in a goldfish bowl

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Mar 2016
We arrived withh our booking made well in advance. We were assigned room 1, next to the office, and the associated comings and goings of staff, guests and phones ringing. Our room had glass sliding door and windows that opened onto the common walkway, no sheer curtain provided for privacy, only the heavy blackout curtain meaning you sat in the dark or had a light on without any air flow or you were fully exposed to all walking past. On our departure, Craig, the male manager was loudly expressing his negative opinion of Asians in general, and two guests in particular. this wennnt on for some time. The motel does not have any cooking facilities, no ironing facilities in the room, long life milk - not fresh. When I suggested to Craig that sheer curtains would aid privacy he told me the owner would not fit them, "perhaps she had an issue as a child" was his comment.

On the up side, the female manager,, name forgotten, was helpful and polite, the bed was comfortable.

This establishment has just several rooms, most overlooking a pleasant golf course and fields and hills beyond, just a kilometre or so from the small town of Lake Brunner, in an area with many attractions. The rooms are small but entirely adequate and very well equipped, not least with a very comfortable bed. The welcome is exceptionally friendly, with good advice about local places to eat. Cereal and toast for a light breakfast are provided at a small extra cost, to a tariff the lowest we paid for any overnight stay in a visit of a few weeks in NZ.

Loved our stay in this spotless, neat and very comfortable accommodation. The rooms are smallish but certainly very serviceable! But, it's the way the hosts have provided an addition shared lounge, outdoor BBQ and insist on doing all the washing up with heaps of additional supplies you can help yourself too......that makes this place pure luxury. The golf course is a little ripper!! Not a PGA course but certainly very challenging and in amazing condition considering it's only looked after by the on site manager...... enjoying playing it as much as the course I'm a member of back home!! Can't recommend this establishment enough!

One of the best value accommodation in NZ during peak season @ $112 p/night. Nice outlook to golf course and mountains. Free golf if you stay there and clubs are provided - it's a pretty basic 9 hole course - more like a bigger version of pitch and putt, but a nice bonus. No food there, so best bet is to go to the Lake Brunner Hotel for a decent feed with a nice view overlooking the lake.

while the rooms are on the small side they are very neat well decorated and comfortable ... the view looking out on the golf course is superb ... and a quick round on the first day showed it to be more than just a show piece ... it is not family accommodation but if you are single a couple or traveling with friends this is a great well priced place to rest your bones .... and the host and hostess will do their utmost to ensure you enjoy your stay ... and the fishing is great! !!

My wife and I stayed hear for one night whilst travelling in the South Island. The unit was very modern, clean and had everything that one needs. The bed was large and very comfortable. These units do not have cooking facilities. We pre booked and paid $119. We were happy with the reception we got on arrival and on our check out. Reasonable value for money and we got exactly what we booked. It's just as much a golf course as motel but it didn't matter as not another soul was there either staying in the accomodation or playing golf. Would we stay again? Yes. The only negative to the place was it is out of Moana village and has no views only the golf course. One night stay-superb. Moana is a lovely lakeside village and had we been touring from there for a fewdays I think that I may have opted to stay in Moana itself. This in no way reflects on the motel and I would have no hestation in reccomending the place to even the most discerning of people.( even though a sign at the entrance did say accomodation tonight $109 ) May have said FROM eh. Never mind i'm quite happy and I will call the $20 a booking/reservation fee. CHEERS EVERONE !!!
