Having viewed Codley Gate website we were certainly NOT disappointed with the accomodation, very clean, comfiest beds ever, well catered in all areas, just first class. As a family it was great to have all the bedrooms en-suite, especially as one a teeneager!! The welcome pack was a lovely personel touch and much appreciated as was the free pass for Vindolanda ruins/museum, (2 minute walk up the lane) which were fascinating, informative and educational for all of us.Many local walks from the doorstep and a short drive to Hadrians Wall sites i.e Steel Riggs or Housestead,

“5* All reviews are accurate.”

This is a 5* cottage. It is a great conversion with good quality fittings; it was very clean, very comfortable and spacious. Though near to Vindolanda it was unbelievably peaceful and quiet. Both the dining kitchen and sitting room are easy to relax in and the bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and clean.
The whole house is full of light.

Codley Gate Cottage has a table and chairs just outside the door which are inviting and though in the farmyard have a feeling of privacy. We loved the little bridge over the stream to the meadow which given the weather invites a picnic.

The hens are your best neighbours ever, they visit to look you over, never come in, chat amongst themselves and entertain you with their daily activities.

Vindolanda is an experience you must visit. The museum is world class and will not leave you untouched.

For us the outstanding memory is that of peace.

“Great cottage, great location, everything you need for a fab family holiday”

We booked our cottage with the previous owner but it was sold to the Vindolanda trust by the time we visited. However all communication with the trust had been excellent, and I guess this was the theme for the whole holiday.
Codley Gate Cottage is a lovely, rather luxurious cottage in beautiful surroundings. We loved the fact that all 3 double bedrooms had their own ensuite, very useful as we travelled with my father. The living room was cosy and lovely to spend the evenings. And the kitchen... well, I wish I could take it home with me!
From the cottage we could walk to Vindolanda in just a couple of minutes, and with the entry tickets we could enter as often as we wanted during our stay - a real bonus as there is so much to see and take in! Also from the cottage it it possible to do some lovely walks to Hadrians Wall: we did 2 circular routes, each just under 10 miles, leaving the car at home. We also did a lovely short circular walk from the Roman Army museum (also part of the Vindolanda Trust), and another short walk on the Allen Banks (Allendale) both suitable to do with young children.
There is plenty of information available at the cottage to give you great ideas for other days out in the area. The children loved just being at the cottage and chasing the chickens (some fresh eggs were in the cottage when we arrived), playing in the nearby field etcetera.
All in all we had a great holiday, and were sorry to have to leave after a week.

“Wonderful Luxury Accommodation in the Heart of Hadrians Wall Country”

Easily accessed and with excellent nearby walks or fast transport links to the coast, Newcastle and Cumbria. This wonderful, secluded cottage really does have something for everyone. The accommodation is immaculately maintained and furnished to a very high standard and the friendly owners are nearby to provide a warm welcome.

Cottage is thoughtfully equipped to provide all the comforts and entertainment required for either an all-adult party or families with children. As the visitor book will testify, many return for a repeat stay and I can easily see why.
