A visit to the top of Medina Sidonia is an absolute must . To have the realisation that Romans built all this 1500 years before is just amazing , the vista from this vantage point is stupendous take the journey and enjoy .

Well worth a visit if you are in Medina Sedonia, then hit the Tapas bars. The whole place oozes history but dont expect too much in terms of Museum etc

The castle was first built by the Romans and then used and expanded by the Muslims, medieval Christians and finally by Napoleon's troops. You can clearly distinguish remains from each period. The guide and informative panels do a good job explaining the visit. Plus, the views from the top are really worthy, you can even see the coast from there. The ticket price was 2€.

First fortified by the Romans, then the Visigoths, then the Muslims and finally the Christians - Wow!

If you have a camera, take a picture of the colour coded map by the entrance showing who built what - it will help you understand the building.

I liked the way the castle clearly showed the different styles of building and the different quality of workmanship and materials - really interesting.

For those less interested in structures, it is worth the effort for the view from the top.

Be careful with children and any who are not very good on their feet as it is very windy. My father was almost blown over as it caught him unprepared. Paths and handrails are sturdy and very much appreciated.

Pity they had to put the water cisterns next to the castle.
