We arrived here unexpectedly after another hotel booking turned out to have been a disaster, and we were really glad to have found it. We stayed two night before taking the ferry from Bilbao. It's a beautiful building and we had a really large, comfortable room. It was raining, so we enjoyed a long leisurely lunch on both days, and the food was excellent. Yes, it is primarily a golf hotel (we don't play) but that didn't distract, save that there was nowhere to walk in the extensive grounds for fear of golf balls. However, it had a nice pool, and a terrace with views (though rather infected by people insisting on having loud conversations on mobile phones). More quiet spots outside, and some walks in the grounds would be a huge improvement. All this said, I think we will stay there again when we next take the ferry to Bilbao.

Room Tip: Rooms NOT overlooking the central terrace are less likely to be disturbed by noisy diners / drinkers / telephoners.

Stayed for 2 nights. Wonderful views from the room to the golf course and countryside. Quiet place ideal for a wedding lunch and subsequent party. Recommended: Buffet breakfast (Croissants are to die for!!)

Palacio Urgoiti is a golf resort situated on the hills just outside of Bilbao very near the airport. The grounds and exterior are beautiful but I felt a bit let down by the rooms that appear more luxurious than the pictures on the internet and the price would suggest. The furnishings and finishes are tired and not that high quality to begin with. Palacio Urgoiti uses drapery and high bed boards to give the impression of luxury but in the end the overall feeling was a bit like an older Marriott Courtyard in need of a facelift--corporate and without much charm. We did not dine in the restaurant but had the buffet breakfast. It was OK (the fruit wasn't the freshest) but not like the breakfasts we had at other B&Bs in Spain--again more like a Marriott Courtyard. If you are looking for a romantic B&B or a charming inn this is not the place for you. If you are on a business trip and want an efficient front of house, a location close to the airport with nice scenery and a chance to squeeze in a round of golf Palacio Urgoiti may be ideal.

We called in for a light lunch in the restaurant. The service was friendly and good. All I wanted was pate and a glass of wine. The wine was good but the pate was disappointingly lacking in flavour. Coffee afterwards was excellent.

We booked this hotel for one night...and stayed for three! The hotel is friendly and relaxing and a great base for day trips in the Basque Country. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with air con., we requested a balcony and enjoyed late evening sun overlooking the beautiful valley.

We dined in the hotel on all three nights! First night casual on the Bistro terrace; following two evenings we ate in the main restaurant; food was divine; beautifully prepared and presented and shout out to Alex; super waiter!

Would definitely return and highly recommend Palacio Urgoiti!

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony
