Travelling up the west coast recently pulled in to see this legend of the forest. As North land is in the middle of a 'kauri die back' problem it is possible that one day we may not be able to see any of the giant kauri's. Unfortunately due to the time of day & weather we were there we could not do any of the other walks in the area (I think a couple were closed anyway)

Fulfilled a long time dream to visit this amazing giant of the forest. It surpassed expectations but what made it an absolutely amazing experience was the young Maori woman 'ambassador' who standing on the board walk in very cold weather answered all our questions and was so enthusiastic and passionate. We visited 4th August and hope she gets the recognition she so much deserves. Kia kaha

This tree is one of the reason I wanna visit NZ. It is historical ancient tree who needs to be taken care & maintain. Hopefully every other country follows the way NZ respect the forest!

well worth the visit because of the kauri dieback disease i wanted to cross this one off my bucket list just in case this magnificent tree dies too.tane is awesome specimen of how kauri would have been before they were all cut down, such a shame they were but the walk is short to get to him and you have two spots for photos please use the footwear clean stations as we dont want tane getting dieback.the mobile cafe has great coffee.

Tane Mahute - Maori 'Son of god' is believed to have been here when Jesus was alive. The tree is immense and has a true majesty and spirituality about it
