I loved meeting Tane Mahuta. The short walk through the bush to the viewing spot was easy and well maintained.
The tree! What a giant of a tree! Incredible how old it is and how many more years of living it still has.
There is a good talk given about Tane Mahuta.
Don't miss the chance to do this.

If you are heading North then a must visit is the walk to the giant Kauri "Tane Mahuta". An easy access walkway leads you to this giant of the forest. It is a shame that a security guard must now stand duty to this wonderous beauty to stop wayward tourists from trying to get up and personal to this tree. Other than that it is truly humbling to stand next to a tree that is thousands of years old. Make sure you add this to your NZ bucket list

Hard to drive to from either Dargaville or Kaikohe but well worth the effort - strangely enough it's only a 5 minute walk from the car park in the Waipoua Forest.
Tane Mahuta "Lord of the Forest" is about 2000 years old and the surrounding forest is also beautiful.

Tane Mahuta is a fantastic sight to see. There was a VERY informative guide at the tree who knew a lot about Kauri history and all the great trees. Decent parking. Nice restrooms. Even a small cafe (trailer/kiosk) in the car park.

Love this attraction. It is nestled amoungst a beautiful forest of native trees and the air is so fresh and clean.
It is such a quick walk in and is very sheltered from the elements which makes it perfect for a sunny or rainy day.
Love how there are now cleaning stations for shoes as well to protect the forest.
