When we arrived and entered reception we felt like we were intruding on someone’s wedding. The area had a lot of wedding guests, and what looked like a drinks reception set up.
Our room was ready, and were told to take our car to the top part of the hotel as we weren’t in the main building. We were also given a voucher for a spa day when it reopens, however the hotel really lacked the spa and facilities being open.
Upon entering our room (5) we were very disappointed. Previously we have stayed in the original part of the hotel and the rooms were lovely. The rooms in the annexe were not to the same standard. The bedding was ripped, the toilet barely flushed, the floor lamp shade had what looked like water stains all over it. The colour scheme was garish and quite frankly it did not feel like £200 worth.
We went over to the bar for some lunch. The sofas and chairs in the bar were filthy and covered in stains. I asked the bar server what was on the club sandwich, he said chicken, bacon and lettuce. I repeated what he said and he said that was correct. It then came and was covered with egg mayonnaise.
We then went back to our room and before long there appeared to be at least 4 power cuts – not sure if this is a regular thing or not?
We went for dinner in the restaurant, which was very chilly. The service wasn’t the best. The person (assume he was in charge) was not in the bit least professional. He eventually came to us and asked if we were ready to order food. No pleasantries, no drinks order, nothing. I asked for drinks, which were consequently forgotten about and my husband had to go to the bar and ask for them. Starters came, no cutlery, no bread with my starter, again had to ask. My main course was lovely. Husbands was disappointing, basically a pork chop and chips – no effort.
On arrival at breakfast, there were no staff around. When a server arrived, we were told that it would be a plated breakfast – not entirely sure what that meant at the time. I then heard someone complain about their breakfast and she mentioned that it was normally a buffet, I assume this is what the server meant. The cold buffet was of a good standard, the plated breakfast was quite poor. Deep fried cremated potato scone and a piece of deep fried breaded haggis is not something I would eat. The staff kept disappearing, and when guests were arriving people didn’t know where to go.
We left just after breakfast, went to settle the bill. The ladies in front of me were trying to sort out an overcharge to their bill. The manager came fairly quickly to correct it. The receptionist started to settle our bill, didn’t ask how our stay was, I had to tell him we were disappointed. He then asked the manager to come and see me. I was asked to wait in a room, however no-one appeared and I was done waiting. He then said that I should contract Guest relations as it was above his paygrade.
I have since been in contact with the Guest Relations Mgr who said he would speak to the relevant Mgrs about my feedback and offered me a 20% reduction on my next stay. We will not be taking him up on the offer!
