A magical stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Nov 2024
The staff went over and above to make our stay at the hotel magical. It is a trip that me and the kids will never forget, due in part to the excellent building/fixtures/fittings/food etc in the hotel, but primarily due to the people we encountered working there.
Thank you

When we arrived and entered reception we felt like we were intruding on someone’s wedding. The area had a lot of wedding guests, and what looked like a drinks reception set up.
Our room was ready, and were told to take our car to the top part of the hotel as we weren’t in the main building. We were also given a voucher for a spa day when it reopens, however the hotel really lacked the spa and facilities being open.
Upon entering our room (5) we were very disappointed. Previously we have stayed in the original part of the hotel and the rooms were lovely. The rooms in the annexe were not to the same standard. The bedding was ripped, the toilet barely flushed, the floor lamp shade had what looked like water stains all over it. The colour scheme was garish and quite frankly it did not feel like £200 worth.
We went over to the bar for some lunch. The sofas and chairs in the bar were filthy and covered in stains. I asked the bar server what was on the club sandwich, he said chicken, bacon and lettuce. I repeated what he said and he said that was correct. It then came and was covered with egg mayonnaise.
We then went back to our room and before long there appeared to be at least 4 power cuts – not sure if this is a regular thing or not?
We went for dinner in the restaurant, which was very chilly. The service wasn’t the best. The person (assume he was in charge) was not in the bit least professional. He eventually came to us and asked if we were ready to order food. No pleasantries, no drinks order, nothing. I asked for drinks, which were consequently forgotten about and my husband had to go to the bar and ask for them. Starters came, no cutlery, no bread with my starter, again had to ask. My main course was lovely. Husbands was disappointing, basically a pork chop and chips – no effort.
On arrival at breakfast, there were no staff around. When a server arrived, we were told that it would be a plated breakfast – not entirely sure what that meant at the time. I then heard someone complain about their breakfast and she mentioned that it was normally a buffet, I assume this is what the server meant. The cold buffet was of a good standard, the plated breakfast was quite poor. Deep fried cremated potato scone and a piece of deep fried breaded haggis is not something I would eat. The staff kept disappearing, and when guests were arriving people didn’t know where to go.
We left just after breakfast, went to settle the bill. The ladies in front of me were trying to sort out an overcharge to their bill. The manager came fairly quickly to correct it. The receptionist started to settle our bill, didn’t ask how our stay was, I had to tell him we were disappointed. He then asked the manager to come and see me. I was asked to wait in a room, however no-one appeared and I was done waiting. He then said that I should contract Guest relations as it was above his paygrade.
I have since been in contact with the Guest Relations Mgr who said he would speak to the relevant Mgrs about my feedback and offered me a 20% reduction on my next stay. We will not be taking him up on the offer!

Room tip: Very little to do around the hotel. Leisure facilities closed for a refurb. Golf course seemed busy. Request a room in the main building.

My husband and I got married at Gleddoch at the start of October 2024. Since booking our wedding 2 years ago we have stayed twice and each time our experience has been better than the last. It is clear there is a lot of investment in the hotel to better the guest experience.

The events team were great to work with and made our vision come to life. Nothing was too much hassle, even an outdoor ceremony on a drizzly day or a bird of prey bringing the rings.

On our big all the staff were friendly and accommodating. Our wedding ran smoothly and our guests had an amazing day. Everyone is still complimenting the food and the standard of the rooms. The food was consistently good every time we have eaten in the hotel. The hotel was also extremely accommodating of food allergies, which was extremely important to us.

Our guests loved the option of using the spa facilities during their stay and I am excited to see the changes following the current round of upgrades. Accessible rooms were available for those who needed them too.

We will definitely be back to celebrate at Gleddoch.

Our experience at this hotel went from bad to worse from the day we got there.
It all started with the hotel not giving us the right details a week before we started. The call received from a lady informed us that the lesuire facilities would be closed for one day.
But when we got there we were told the spa/lesuire facilities would be closed until March 2025.
Rebecca the manager after we complained offered us a refund but we had to decline as after a 5hr drive and the bad weather we didn’t know where else to go.
Eventually we got to our room where we requested a lack view which we got but there was no bath. To make matters worse there was digging equipment outside our room. As soon as we saw this we requested to room as we also wanted a bath.
Rebecca informed us that we didn’t request this but she would try send someone over to show us other room.
Angela came over and was brilliant as she could see I wasn’t happy at all especially as we booked a 7 night stay and what we came for (a relaxing stay) wasn’t available with the spa closed throughout our stay.
Angela eventually got us a really nice room with a bath and a river view.
Three days later we had to move as there was a bees nice by our room which meant bees were coming through the window and the air vent in the bathroom which meant we had to move.
Because I wanted a bath there was no river view room so we had a room with the garden view which was lovely.
On the last night (Saturday) there was a wedding which meant it was very noisy as we could here the DJ until 12am on top of that they had a power outage 3 times
Especially that evening.
Overall I would not stay at this hotel nor recommend it to anyone as the hotel chose to lie before we got there as they wanted our money. So for me this hotel is all about profitability than anything else. Yes we were offered a refund but once we got there, which is too late especially if your not from Scotland and there was no recommendation of were to go.
Rebbeca did offer us two spa day ticket for when they reopened which is in March but like I said we wouldn’t travel 5hr just for a spa day. This hotel should have done a lot better staying by tell guest the truth.

Room tip: Avoid staying over the weeding reception area . The gym is really small with one of some equipment only so avoid after 6pm

Dear Guest,

Thankyou for taking the time to provide feedback from your recent stay with us at Gleddoch House.

Please accept my sincerest apologies that you left feeling disappointed with your overall experience.

I think there must have been some miscommunication regarding our spa closure, as our full team are fully aware of the spa closing dates, so I think you may have picked our receptionist up wrong.

I am really glad that Angela and Rebecca were able to change you rooms and that you were happy with this.

The power outage that we had was really out with our control, this was an outage in the whole area, luckily our back up generator was able to bring our supply back on.

I really do hope you will give us another chance to Impress you in the very near future.

Just got married here and it was the most perfect day!! From the surroundings of the hotel to the friendliness of the staff. We couldn't have picked a more beautiful venue. The hotel itself is lovely and so modern and every room is different. The staff made us feel so welcome and special. Will definitely be going back for our anniversary 🥰

Email we sent to Gleddoch House after our stay last weekend

We would like to thank you for the wonderful weekend we had with you. We initially had some concerns our friends would not make our dinner réservationat 9, as it was their flight was delayed,  however my husband ordered the food as they were checking in and all was good, the wait staff were great and even made a fuss of our dog later when we were in the lounge area.

The following day we mentioned our room was very hot and we could hear a lot of noise from the wedding, we were moved rooms complimentary and even helped to move .

We decided to stay another night with our friends and that was accommodated.

All the staff were friendly, courteous and especially the evening restaurant staff who took time for us.

The standard of our meals was superb, no complaints there.

We have stayed previously some time ago, but this time seemed exceptional. A great introduction to our friends from England.

Room tip: For quieter area of hotel if there is a function you are not attending then rooms at the top by restaurant are quiet Good dog walking area and dog poo bins.
