We reached Unzen mid afternoon after a fascinating ferry ride and nearly 2 hours of drive over scenic mountainous roads. Our GPS led us directly to Yumei Hotel without a glitch. Its' reception area is nice and the hotel is doing up its' New Year decoration which we saw checking out the following day - very simple and nice deco - they are creative! Unfortunately the hotel itself looks aged and their facilities do need some work to be brought back to its formal shine. Their rooms are comfortable but toilet and furniture are also in need of make-over. Their hot bath is refreshing and their water smell sulfuric and nice, again their common bath rooms are old and need some re-working. The stay there is overall pleasant but we left wanting more as we know the hotel has good potential if it is restored to its' early state. They have a pool but now closed again due to the state that need maintenance.
I would give it a very good rating if only....

Felt long history as some old guest books and pictures are displayed in this hotel. Buildiing itself and facilities look old, but its clean, well maintained. The room is bigger than expected. Onsen is as expected, nice. Food is also good. but I could not have a breakfast in the room.

I stayed here for a night. Their onsen has both indoors and outdoors. Compared to many other hotels that felt like it was only hot water. Their onsen is hot with sulphur smell. This shows it is really water from the hell valley! The skin feels exceptionally soft and smooth after onsen and has a powdery smooth texture.

Their service is excellent and enjoyed a traditional Japanese sumptous breakfast!

Wow!

Thank you for wonderful Reviews.

As for you, the knowledge about the hot spring where a study is eager in is evaluated.
The person who can express the smell and feel of a material precisely is rare.

I want "Unzen" to come again by all means.

The Yumei hotel is very well located - right by the bus stop, and the rooms have a great view of Hell Valley steam in the distance. The entrance lobby and hotel facilities feel a little bit 1970s, but the service was great - English-speaking, very helpful (eg they told us about the bus trip up to the pass and booked us a seat), and the dinner (served in our room) was delicious and able to handle special dietary requirements. The room was large and comfortable - we had a tatami room and a Western-style area with beds. The hot spring facilities were good and I got to sit outside in the hot spring while it was snowing!

Thank you for an evaluation.

You seemed to be able to enjoy it during a stay and are glad.
Our Hotel is an old hotel of the establishment of a business for 1974 years.
It is an old building, but maintains it carefully.

In addition, Please visit the hot spring for pleasure sometime.
