Although I am from NZ I now live in the UK and had never been to Matakana so thought a good place to visit with my British husband to try various wines from the region and try the much talked about menu.
We originally went for a try of the wines and enjoyed them so much we went back the following night to try the food and we were not disappointed. We had the mussles, ceviche, stuffed mushrooms and the baked Camembert all were beautifully cooked and presented.
The real icing on the cake though was the awesome customer service - at the end of the meal we were asked if there was anything else we wanted.
My husband asked (tongue in cheek) for a bar of dairy milk Black Forest (this is the one kind they don’t sell in the UK so we make sure to stock up when in NZ) - obviously this was not on the menu :-)
As we went to pay our bill the fabulous girl behind the bar offered for us to try some fejoa wine (I can’t believe I had never tried this being from Northland!) as we were chatting and enjoying the wine - a huge bar of dairy milk Black Forest chocolate appeared before us on the bar - our waiter (maybe called Matt?!) had gone and got one for us from somewhere locally - We were just blown away by the service and how much they went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing time at The Vintry.
I will now recommend this local gem of a place to everyone for the delicious food, beautiful wine, chilled atmosphere and the great people that work there and are a credit to the establishment.
Cheers guys!!!! :)
