We booked the accommodationfor three nights in January (we were in Auckland for a wedding). This is a very tricky one as I cannot quite make up my mind about what I think.

Our first slight dissapointment when we arrived was the gravel roads. The roads to the cabins (?) are gravel and very narrow and I certainly would not like to venture out late at night. I can understand it is in keeping with the setting - however I think it detracts from the five star award. Secondly, we thought we were getting river views and got views of trees instead. I was quite specific about the view when I booked so not sure if this is the best they have or perhaps it got lost in translation.

It was extremely hot while we were up in Auckland and the unit was swelteringly hot. There was no fan. Plenty of heating appliances but not a single fan. We called to enquire and were told they are not supplied. No ceiling fan and no floor fan. Insane to say the least.

Our neighbouring guests were very noisy every night (we were given an apology for it but that does not change the fact that we were kept up for most of the night).

The price - expensive. Quite far to drive for basics and the traffic is manic in peak season. Would I give it a five star.....difficult to say but I would lean towards a gentle no.

The place was very clean, well equipped and the staff were superb, thank you! We really enjoyed the views, the tranquility and the proximity of so many wonderful beaches and of course Matakana itself.

Room Tip: Lodge 2 was great!

The Bach is well designed, very spacious and fully self contained. Fantastic location, so peaceful listening to all the tuis flying around. Have stayed at Riverside twice now and look forward to our next time.

Had the absolute pleasure of spending 7 nights (Boxing Dat through New Year at Riverside Matakana. Great easy living accommodation, with all your home luxuries, in a beautiful tranquil setting. Lots to do onsite if you want to tennis, swim or kayak and only a quick trip into Matakana itself.
A brilliant spot to holiday with family and/or friends. An easy 15 minutes drive and you can be in Omaha, Warkworth or Snells Beach for a play or supplies. There are lots of dining options and cafes in the surrounding area.
We will definitely be returning.
Thanks to Michael and his staff for making the experience such a relaxing one.

It has been a lovely surprise to discover the Matakana region and stay at Riverside. We stayed in unit 11 which is seen on the right of the small promo picture, and has views across the vines, down to the river and tennis court. Accommodation is modern and spacious, my friend and I each have our own room and en suite. There is also a well equipped kitchenette, which has everything we needed, and a morning daily service. We didn't need to use the fireplace, but I imagine it would be lovely in the Winter. The BBQ also never got used as there are so many wonderful restaurants in the area. I think the tariff is great for the quality of accommodation offered, and would hope to come back sometime.
