My husband and I believe that a year without Italy is a wasted year. We lived in Rome for some time until 2002, and every year since we try to return to bella Toscana. Four years ago we discovered La Casella, a wonderful country house tucked into the Tuscan hillside near Cetona and Chuisi. La Casella with its surroundings is an idyllic place, full of serenity, magic and beauty. We have already booked a month in the summer for 2016 - this will be our fourth summer at La Casella.
The house is wonderfully comfortable - really two apartments. The website is quite accurate with its descriptions and photos. The owner is very cognizant of modern traveler needs -- WIFI, clothes washers (one per apartment), dish washers (although we never use) and well -appointed bathrooms (recently the owner added a large walk-in shower just like the Hassler! - well almost). The groundkeeper and his wife are lovely people, very gracious and always eager to assist with any special needs - they live off-site so there is no privacy intrusion.
And the location is exquisitely perfect for day trips to Roma, Firenze and all the fascinating towns of Tuscany - our favorites being Perugia, Montepulchiano, and Cortona. On occasion we travel farther afield and spend the night at a hotel - just this last summer we visited Milano and the 2015 Expo. Yet, close to La Casella is Cetona, the epitome of sweet Tuscan towns, complete with a caffe bar, town square, gelateria and wonderful markets. We often just hang out in the neighborhood!
We give La Casella the very highest recommendation.
