Booked this room after searching for accommodation with Tesla destination chargers, couldn't be happier. Not only was one of the three chargers reserved for me upon arrival but the power supplier was 3 phase, ensuring that the car was charged from virtually empty to full in a little over 4 hours.

Upon arrival, whilst checking the room, I was offered a complimentary glass of wine whilst I waited in the comfortable bar - a lovely touch.

The room was extremely well appointed (if a little snug) and the bathroom extremely clean and well stocked with quality soaps/shampoos etc.

The breakfast was delicious with fresh ingredients and a wide choice.

All in all, a brilliant stay, one which I would have no hesitation in repeating.

We really wanted to like our local pub, which has recently spent a lot of money building an attractive extension to its restaurant, all soft tones and distressed wood. But the nice ambience is let down by amateurish service from a friendly but clearly untrained member of the waiting team and by a menu which disappoints. First disappointment was the non-availability of the signature starter (this at 7pm on a Monday!), followed for me by a tasteless mackerel dish and an equally tasteless sea bream - tasteless, that is, apart from an ill conceived fried saffron gnocchi accompaniment which tasted to me rather artificial. Maybe we had a bad night so we will try again one day but investment in staff and food ingredient quality, to match the pleasant surroundings, would be advisable imo.

We stayed here as it was convenient for Worth Abbey. We had a really well appointed twin room approached via a steep staircase and away from the hustle and bustle of the bar. The beds were extremely comfortable and although the outside temperature was very warm we managed a peaceful night’s sleep. The walk in shower was particularly good.
After a few drinks in the nicely kept pub garden we ordered dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant was not very busy and I couldn’t understand why the waitress positioned us right by the kitchen entrance. The pan fried cod was nicely cooked but it could have done with a few more vegetables and the Japanese broth was a little strange. The fish and chips I ordered was acceptable although the chips were soggy and had the potato skins on and the peas were of the frozen variety. We had a very nice pudding, some form of brûlée and delicious cheese.
It was the breakfast which caused the most amusement. It wasn’t included in the room rate and we were charged for each piece of toast, each orange juice (which tasted very strange) and each cup of coffee. We were served by an interesting Irish lady who kept popping off to toast us pieces of very ordinary bread! Quite an experience!

Called in for a drink with my family today served by a female whose indifference bordered on rudeness, a younger man behind the bar wasn’t much better. Such a shame as the pub and garden are really lovely but we won’t be going again.

The evening meal was a bit pricey... but the food was excellent: creative and delicious. Definitely worthwhile if you want to go out for a fancy meal, went through practically the whole menu and loved all of it.

The morning meal was over-priced. The Green Welly opposite does a much better range of breakfast options for about half the price. Unfortunately neither of them had any fresh fruit to offer.

As a hotel the bull is ok, but not good value for money, mainly because of the location. It's right on a busy crossroad, in a village which despite being a bit up itself is really just an expensive art gallery and lots of traffic. Of course being a pub it's noisy until at least 11pm often later.

The room doors are in desperate need of 'soft close' hinges as they all slam loudly, which doesn't help the noise situation.

The staff were mixed. Chloe stood out as being a keeper to me. It's not often you get someone who is efficient but unfailingly cheerful and makes each customer feel that she has all the time in the world just for them. Treat her well as she is exceptional.

I got the feeling that the Bull is a great restaurant but doesn't really care about the 'hotel' side of things. When informed that our mirror lighting was broken, making the mirror essentially unusable because of the position of it in the shadows, we got a "Yeah it's been broken for ages." type attitude. Ok? So fix it? We also told them well in advance that we wanted a twin not a double and still had to wait for hours while they sorted that out. Sick of that happening with hotels - why take those details and then ignore them?

On the positive side, there were tea and coffee making facilities including fresh milk, topped up daily, and the rooms were well cleaned. The cleaning staff were very friendly too.

So I guess a 3.5 / 5 - the kind of "Been in worse, been in better" sort of place. Rounded down to the 3 because it was so expensive that you expect more - if it had been better value for money, it could have been a 4.
