Owner description: An all day cruise through the beautiful Marlborough Sounds delivering mail and groceries to remote and secluded properties. The Pelorus Sound is the largest of the Sounds and the Mail Boat is a lifeline to the people living in this boat access wonderland. You will hear a great selection of stories about life in the sounds, its history, and how the mail has been delivered like this since 1918.You will also get to experience the marine and bird life in the area including 5 types of Dolphins, Australasian Gannets, rare Shags, Seals and many more.A full Mussel Farm tour is also included and there is usually an opportunity to see the Mussel Boats operating during harvesting or seeding. We will stop off at a local lodge and passengers are able to buy lunch or bring your own lunch and come with us to a local farm for a tour. You will also be able to enjoy a bush walk or swim if you would like. We are now operating 7 days in summer, which is November to April.

This has to be the best job in the world...deliver the mail by boat! This is a best buy at full price but we were lucky enough to have a 50% off voucher. At $128NZD per person you get to cruise the Marlbourgh Sounds delivering the mail with Jim and Bindi. You board the boat a bit before 9:30 and arrived back in port by 4:30. The boat has an indoor heater, they provide seats, tea, coffee and cookies, and a two toilets...you should bring your own lunch and a sense of adventure. We brought along a wool blanket and so enjoyed sitting out on the front of the boat (next time I will bring a small cushion as well. We saw blue penguins, (sometime you will see dolphins we did't have luck with that today) but really fun is actually meeting all the hardy folks who live year round in the sound (the only way you get mail delivery is if you are a full time resident). We stopped at te Rawa resort today that was under new ownership as of 3 days ago the new owner Anne was so welcoming I can't wait to go back and stay) We were able to purchase a glass of wine and sit on the stunning deck for a bit. Highly recommend this trip very kid friendly.

Even though we didn't pick the best day "weather wise" it was well worth it, Jim and Bindi were very imformative and friendly,we saw dolphins which the kids loved and it was so nice to see how the locals live around the sounds and dropping off there mail ect. Was suitable for the kids too ages (5mnths-2yrs) note to self to bring more food next time. We feel very lucky to have this service right on our doorstep and highly recommend it for a good relaxing day out.

Despite this trip we had a sunny day with little wind. Enjoyed meeting the locals and hearing about the history of the area. We were able to see bottle nose and common dolphins as well as seals.

Did a Thursday mail trip on the Pelorus Mail Boat with a Group - foggy to start with & then fine & sunny. Lucky to see several pods of dolphins. Excellent commentary on the history & life on Pelorus Sound.
