“MUST BE DONE ! do not miss it”

What a way to spend a day with a difference, unlike any other boat trip we have ever done. It is a real service route but takes passengers as well. Allow a whole day, you will meet people who rely on this boat for supplies and mail. Also animals will await the arrival of the boat for their treats, dogs chickens and even pigs, amazing. Stop debating whether to do this trip and get on and book it now. Wonderful views and helping to keep this rare boat trip going. Many thanks for a day with a difference.

“Great history lesson”
Reviewed 12 February 2014

Captain Jim and assistant Captain Peggy spend the day taking you on a magical water voyage to learn more about the history of Pelorus Sound. The boat offers inside and outside seating, two bathrooms, hot tea, coffee and cookies all through the day. You'll see the sights of the sound, learn all about long line mussel farming and about each family on their mail delivery route and how they make a living out in the sound, often without power lines and city water. If you're lucky, you'll get to see a pod of dolphins playing off the bow or stern wakes. Jim is a true Scot with red hair and a bubbly personality to match. Peggy grew up on a farm near by and gives a great narrative to match. The weather was mostly grey but we saw wonderful sights, met other passengers from around the world and had our eyes opened to how other people not just live, but thrive in the sounds.

“This one rocks - but not the boat”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

If anyone wants an exemplar of good customer service or tourism best practice, Jim and Penny can provide it. From the extensive research of people and places evident in their patter as you move through beautiful Marlborough Sounds scenery to the personable interaction with tourists on board to the personalised feeding of treats to children, dogs and other animals waiting on jetties to receive mail and supplies, this operation abounds in examples of how to do things well. Jim and Penny are naturals at all of the above and genuinely take pleasure from sharing their experience with others. I would find it difficult to believe someone could not enjoy this magical day out on the water with great people and fabulous surroundings.

“Pelorous Mail Boat from Havelock”
Reviewed 4 February 2014

Two of our friends and my wife and myself went out on this Trip and we were definitely pleasantly suprised with the value for money we experienced.
It was a wonderful day with stunning scenery and the most pleasant crew you could wish to encounter.
Both captain Jim and his first mate Penny were a wealth of local knowledge and kept all full informed during the journey. The P.A. system onboard was good and audible from all parts of the boat.
It was interesting to observe the mussel farms closeup together with various forms of wildlife we saw on the day.
The trip lasted a full 7 hours with coffee and tea available all day long.,
Toilet facilities were fine.
Would fully recommend this trip to both NZ ers and Overseas Tourist as a golden opportunity to take in some of NZs if not the worlds most stunning scenery and to see the great places that some Kiwis live whilst delivering their mail and supplies.
I have done the Cream Trip in the Bay of Islands in NZ and a similar trip on Vancouver island and this day out compares more then favourably with those.

“Great day out”
Reviewed 31 January 2014 via mobile

We had a great day out with Jim and Penny. Stunning scenery, beautiful weather and really interesting information about where we went, what we saw and stories about living in the Pelorus Sound. All done with obvious local knowledge and love for the area. We would thoroughly recommend this trip. A lot of thought and effort has gone into making it a very informative, amusing and pleasant trip, while providing a vital service to the remote local community.
