Being the only direct flight available, and vowing never to fly via China ever again (look at my air china experience), MIAT was the only carrier available. From my understanding, they're definitely starting to modernize, however both my flights were on a narrow body 737 without any personal screen/vod. The flight out had what seemed like an extremely old plane- with seatbelts that you had to flip open before inserting the otherside to latch. The seats were relatively comfortable, however because they were thick, the legroom wasn't the greatest. Entertainment was a shared dropdown screen playing an extremely old movie- luckily i downloaded movies to my laptop so was fine. On the way back, the seats were thinner and leather- the plus side of this is the extra legroom afforded.
It's better than a budget airline, but obviously nowhere near world class status at the moment. Still, I had no issues with the service given, and I believe that MIAT will continue to modernize their fleet.
