Review of American Airlines

Reviewed 3 May 2018

Check in at Bradley was curbside and very easy.Drawback is the $25 fee for check bagsHad a TSA pre check but still required to do the belt and full body scan even after showing them my implant card.American fleet uses both Airbus 321 and Boeing 737s.Flying out to Dallas we had the 737 ,entertainment ob board was limited and if you wanted to see something other then what was being shown had to sign in for wifi(pay)and then use your own device.Out of Dallas had the321 with full entertainment service. On way back from Sacarmento had a 321 with no entertainment and from Dallas to Hartford 737 with again limited service. On the 737 usb port is under the seat and very hard to get to.On one of the 321 everything was right in front of you.Leg room and seat comfort is terrible.Still cannot figure out why they don't board a plane from the rear to the front. If I was a first class or business class passenger I would much rather stay in the lounge a little longer then be crushed by people heading to seats in the main cabin area.Staff on all flights were friendly.Did not connect with agents so no comment there.Overall an average deal.Get rid of baggage fee price is high enough.

The flights were unremarkable except for three things.
1. On the return flight there were a myriad of empty seats; yet the AA website indicated onlythe only available seats were for purchase. 3 of us passengers were crammed into one row while the rows across the aisle and behind us were empty. Of couse, we spread out as soon as possible.
2. My husband was diagnosed with the flu. His physician said that he was too contagious to fly and also medically not able to fly. Instead of respecting his physicans professional diagnosis, the airline has refused to refund the cost of his flight and is, in effect, encouraging passsengers with contagious diseases to fly.
3. I was surprised that American only offers flights from Norfolk to Philadelphia (2 seats on each side of aisle) and Phil to Detroit (2 seats + 1 seat across the aisle) on tiny planes between major destinations.

A fairly grim experience that persuaded me to stick with BA for all future flights. Very little leg or body room; dismal food even by usual airline standards, very indifferent and rather scruffy and casual cabin crew. Nothing positive to say!

It was a long flight. That being said it was a lovely aircraft, the Dreamliner, the service was good and the food was not bad for airplane food. Our flight was on time and the ride was smooth. We left Sydney early in the morning and flew for 13 hours. I enjoy the early morning flights more than the night flights as I don't sleep sitting up. The personal entertainment system worked very well and there were tons of movies available. I watched 4! Pillows and blankets were provided even in coach! Great trip!

Easy check in at the agent's desk. I have the A/A credit card that offers free bag on domestic flights but this one cost $25.00 Each way because it was international. I do not think the airlines really needs my $25.00 and this is just another way to charge us more. Boarded on time but a lot of folks insisted on bringing large "Carry On" bags with them to stow overhead. Limit is one bag but this was not enforced at the gate. Took quite a while to get everyone on board and seated. Same thing on the way home. Flying used to be a pleasure, now it's an experience to endure...A/A did their best but it still could be improved.
