“a good flight straight from New Orleans to Toronto”
Review of Air Canada

Reviewed 9 December 2017

After a trip down the Mississippi on a Stern paddle wheeler we stayed in New Orleans for about four days and were ready to come home which we did in November. It turned out that this was the only direct flight which was great. The flight was smooth, the cabin crew great and we landed on time even though we were a bit late departing.

Charging $25. For a first piece of luggage is cheap. Also it was a real surprise!
How many people travel 4+ hours without luggage?

Late but understandable due to weather. However, like most time I fly with AC the on board staff are coming across as miserable, unhappy and are not interested in customer respect and courtesy, though not really surprisin.
When they walk in the aisle some of them hit passengers with their hips, make lots of noise when closing overhead bins. When they come by with cart they rarely warn passengers to keep elbows in.
They also boarded from the front to the back so it takes a long time to board and none of the staff ensure oversize luggage, as per the template at the gate, do NOT exceed limits. As a matter of fact none of the airlines I fly with actually do it.

Wow, I got to fly in seat 1K from London to Toronto onboard Air Canada’s new 787-9. Excellent service and crew! The IFE, menu selection, wine selection, ride quality, and comfort were all great. I did notice an improvement in air quality on the flight, but it was certainly not near as quite as an A380. My seat/bed was a little narrow at the shoulders and I am only 5’11” and 180lbs. Also, there were a few glitches in various things: the IFE screen would randomly turn back on in the night, the toilet in the lav seemed to flush even if you were just washing your hands, and we took a little delay as door 1 would not disarm the slide. A ghost in the machine perhaps, but then again I do work for Airbus so I am a little picky about the details.

Again, nice job Air Canada!

Knowing from previous experience with this airline how tight the accommodation in 'economy' is, we now opt for 'Business class'. We also always book on flights that have a 'pod' configuration because, with mobility issues, this is the best option for us. Having done all this, we arrived at the departure gate to discover that our plane had conventional layout of seating, so had an uncomfortable journey to San Francisco - even though we were travelling 'business class'. I appreciate that the airline had obviously had to change the scheduled plane, but they could have let us know and offered to change our flights.
