Renting a car at the Florence airport staying in barberino v

This is our first visit to Italy. We will be staying in a rented house in barberino val d'elsa and are considering renting a car at the Florence airport. My question is how difficult is to drive from the airport to barberino val d'elsa? The round abouts look a little confusing but it looks like the drive is about 18 miles or 29km

From the airport, head away from Florence on the A11, then take the A1 south past Florence. Take the motorway turnoff towards Siena, then the exit for Barbarino. This journey will be mostly on motorway and there will not be many roundabouts. This route is around 46 km, taking about 40 minutes.

Do not attempt to drive through the Florence metropolitan area.

You don't go to the airport. You take a taxi to Via Palagio degli Spini the rental complex a short distance away. Read Nick's excellent driving tips:

Thank you. We are actually landing at the Florence Airport and then it looks like some car rental agencies are at the airport and some are not. Is this correct or are all of the car rental agencies off site?

They are all off site. There is nowhere at the airport for rental cars to be stored.

Thank you so much for the information and advice on the route to take. We want the easiest route so we don’t get lost and do not want to drive where it will be too confusing.

Arriving at FLR, the shuttle to the complex leaves from the left side of the small building in the parking lot. We call up Autoeurope to rent cars.

You can get your required Int'l Driving Permit at your local AAA ($20 or so), you don't have to be a member.

GPS will not show ZTL's.
