January anyone?

We were really excited to book our first trip to Fiji but just realised that January (end) is probably not the best option to go (cyclones, rain, mosquitos....)

Has anyone been in January and what are your suggestions? We are traveling with a 5yo and don’t want to risk it....

Thank you all!!

It can rain at any time of year. January is in the wet season and the main island western side, Denarau and Nadi area tend to get hot and humid with chance of afternoon thunderstorms or if a low pressure system is over the area it will rain worst scenario a cyclone. This is why comprehensive travel insurance is important. Mosquitoes yes but most resorts spray. We travel December /January and have been lucky . The islands are less humid and get any sea breezes. Cyclones season is November through to March but they have been known in early April.

Even though the resorts do spray it would be best to cover up and make sure the 5yr old is protected with insect repellent especially at dusk.

Although Mosquitoes can be around at any time dusk is the worst

I was thinking of going in Jan too since the rooms are so cheap lol.. Went to Punta Cana two weeks ago during hurricane season and thank God it only rained the day we arrived and the rest was sunny days. So hopefully it will be the same here.

Exactly, cyclones pass quickly, as long as they don’t leave a trail of destruction all is usually ok. Most island resorts evacuate guests to the mainland well in advance. We were there last Christmas and New Year when a cyclone was approaching and all transfer were cancelled, we stayed on the island resort and thankfully the cyclone changed direction. We are heading back again this year same time.

Sandra have you decided on a resort you will be staying at yet as many book out early

With it being Australian and New Zealand school holidays many resorts will have lots of children
