Money saving tips at Fiji
Save

all,

We are going to Fiji in 2 weeks time to Denarau for one week at Sheraton Resort. Does anyone have saving tips for

1. Taxi transfer from Nadi airport to Denarau resort and return?

2. Best way to exchange into Fiji dollar from NZ dollar with the best exchange rate and least fee? Is it better to do it while in Fiji?

3. We were planning to use Wise card fiji dollar, but unfortunately not able to as it's only for local. Anywhere to work around this?

Many thanks

Hi Thomas, and welcome to the forum.

Here are some tips/thoughts:

If you take a taxi or private transfer to Denarau, ask your driver to stop at a market on the way for snacks, sodas, bottled water, or other items you might want. It will be cheaper than purchasing them at your resort. You could also buy supplies at Port Denarau, but will be a little more expensive.

Recent forum posts mention the cost of a taxi from the airport to Denarau as around 35FJD-40FJD. Taxis back to the airport are about 45FJD-55FJD. They are more expensive because Denarau has their own taxis.

You will need FJD for taxis as the drivers don't take credit cards. Money can be exchanged at the ATM's or currency exchange booths at the airport in Nadi. They have a good exchange rate, and are open for all arriving flights. Do confirm the price before getting in. Micks Fiji, Uniquely Fiji, Tewaka, and Epic Tours also provide transportation from the airport as well as for tours. Would compare prices as to which is best.

Drinks at resorts can be pricey, and add up quickly. To help keep the price down, and for having drinks in your room/bure recommend purchasing alcohol at the duty free shops at the airport in Nadi. They are open for all arriving/departing flights. We can't buy our brand of choice in Fiji, so take the amount of alcohol allowed by customs in our checked luggage.

For other suggestions of what to take with you, as well as helpful information, have a look at the following compiled by current and past forum posters. Though the link is old and can no longer be edited it is still relevant. Latest information on fees in the following link:

Hope this helps. Have a wonderful holiday at the Sheraton, and enjoy your countdown until you arrive in paradise.

As mentioned in post #1 check with the number of providers for the best rates for both the airport transfers and tours.

We found the exchange rate at Nadi airport was very good and in most cases better than we could get back home.

Most resorts etc charge around 3% for use of a credit card on top of your own credit card transaction tax so if you can pay by cash I would do that.

I think food in the resorts is reasonable but wine / beer is expensive. So if you enjoy a drink it might be worth bringing a few bottles from home or pick them up at the Nadi airport duty free. (3 bottles per person allowed through customs.) Wine is close to $100 FJD per bottle at the resorts for average quality.

If you have a nice balcony this just takes the sting out of the drinks bill.

According to his reviews Thomas and his wife had a marvelous time staying at The Sheraton earlier this year to celebrate their anniversary.

Since you mentioned the cost of wine Peter for those staying at Denarau Victoria Wines is worth a visit for a great selection of wines at far better prices than resorts charge. Obviously this is only for consumption in your room or on your patio or terrace or ... to take to dinner with you at those restaurants/resorts that allow BYO - (corkage fees will apply of course).

Located right beside the Port building )Passenger terminal) - can't miss it. They also sell beer and spirits.
