Need to pick up a car rental at Honolulu airport - but need drop off location in Waikiki as we have early morning check in - ourside of rental car company hours at HNL? Who should I use? Without it costing too much?
Rental car companies have procedures for drop off before they open. Call or email them.
We just booked something similar, although the hours are not outside the rental car company hours. You will probably be charged an extra fee for dropping off the car in a different location.
I originally booked our car rentals in November (for our upcoming trip to both Maui and Oahu in two weeks) through Discount Hawaii Car Rental. Plug in your dates/times for pick up and drop off and this third-party site checks for rental companies that are available.
I checked the DHCR site again last week and the price had fallen considerably....I also checked Expedia and surprisingly got the best rate and deal (and in Canadian dollars which makes a big difference with our exchange rate right now)....so I cancelled the original booking with DHCR. Between our car rentals in Maui and Oahu...I have saved $280 by checking back and re-booking (without penalty).

If anything, car rental locations in Waikiki have even more limited hours than those locations close to HNL.

Prolly going to have a $50-100 drop off fee. Most locations in Waikiki close around 6pm.
That's fine - we can drop off late arvo the day prior in Waikiki - but we have check in around 4-4:30am at HNL which makes it impossible for airport drop off. Thanks for sharing.

They open when the airport opens which is 4:30
it is not answer I like to give but each rental counter has their own policies and change them rather quickly.

So, it looks like you can return your car as early as 4:30AM when the airport opens. Possibly earlier, depending on the specific rental car company.
