Since the City has a reputation for never sleeping, I was wondering what places/experiences a local would recommend to a 26-year-old night owl, including but not limited to nightclubs, speakeasys etc.

Ideally, it would be somewhere in the vicinity of Hell's Kitchen and Upper West Side, but I'm receptive to any experience/area provided it is culturally or musically stimulating.

It goes without saying: the safer the area, the better. Although I do concede that after sunset all big cities in the world get exponentially unsafer (and NYC is no exception), so caution is needed virtually anywhere.

Thanks a lot in advance!

In the evening

A comedy club can fill one evening.

A baseball game, inn season the Yankees or Mets or other pro sports

The Empire State Building is open till midnight.

Top of the rock Observatory at Rockefeller center is open in the evening as well.

The oculus is open 24 hours. —but, street level access is limited overnight from 1:00 am to 5:00 am.

The free Staten Island ferry runs all night and it’s wonderful to see Lady liberty lit up at night.

There are also paid cruises you can do

My friends' kids (your age) go to Club 205 - I hear it's pretty cool (I've thought about checking it out, but fear running into them). http://205club.com/ It's the place of the moment, but that may change by the time you're here.

There's also a club at the Public Hotel, nearby on Chrystie Street.

Check out Bar 13 http://www.bar13nyc.com/

Look at Theinfatuation.com and Eater.com for their lists of newest cocktail bars. What's "hot" changes quickly. For example: https://ny.eater.com/maps/nyc-best-new-cocktail-bars-heatmap

check out pulsd.com for events. I heard about that site from a 20something in Brooklyn. Ask again when it's close to your trip.

*What time are we talking?*

Pretty much anything in the midnight-to-dawn time slot.

Thank you very much for the replies, I'm annotating everything.

By the way, is there such a thing as an "anticafé" in NYC? I mean a place that's open 24 hours a day and where you pay for the time you spend in the place instead of what you eat/drink, usually in the company of digital nomads and fellow night owls.

They are tremendously popular in Moscow and some parts of Western Europe, not quite sure if that's actually a thing here.

I couldn't find anything like that on the web, but better ask local experts.

Never heard of it, but you would need to ask people in their 20s...maybe your should join A Small World, it skews more to people who like to party.
