Clinton vs Lambertville

I’ll be in Wayne in August for a Thursday wedding and a late flight back to FL on Saturday. I have a free day with a rental car at my disposal and will be skipping the city. My husband and I are looking for recommendations for towns to explore within driving 1-1.5 hr driving distance since we’ve never been to NJ before. We are open to history, interesting architecture, farmers markets, and hiking (rivers or waterfalls are a bonus). Thanks!

Lambertville and New Hope PA across the river are interesting. Princeton would be my choice.

You can easily do Clinton, Frenchtown and Lambertville in a day- depending on what you like to do. Clinton has both an art and history museum. Frenchtown has a new art center and Lambertville/ New Hope is a Mecca of restaurants, etc.

The above are valid choices but I'd add Morristown & Chester to your list too. They are a bit closer.

Wayne to Lambertville / New Hope & then back to EWR will be rushed. Princeton / New Brunswick is more of a straight shot up the turnpike.

Lamberville and New Hope are right on the river. Shops and places to eat aplenty. Princeton is also nice. Clinton would not be my choice to spend time if you only have one day- it would be either Lambertville/New Hope or Princeton. Both destinations are about the same distance

Personally I would avoid Clinton, NJ as much as possible. Police ticket with great frequency both day and night in my opinion. Lambertville and other river towns are more hospitable.
