Beach question

Gonna be in Holland July 1 through July 5th. We want to spend some time relaxing on the Holland state park beach. Will it be crazy busy during the week in the morning? I assume the 4th will be? Is there another near by park/beach that we should consider? Preferably without a major hike to get there.

Thanks in advance.

Most cities will be having their firework displays before or after the fourth, unlike Holland, thus Holland likely will be the busiest of all area towns on the fourth. Google Michigan firework displays for a great overall link to dates that other towns nearby will be having their fireworks. Holland State Park is pretty good size so you probably will not be too crammed. And in the mornings, most beaches are often void of any crowds at all.

Many other nearby beaches are smaller and have stairs leading down to the beach. The next large beaches are Saugatuck, MI State Park to the south (requires a hike) and Oval Beach (close parking/no stairs that I remember) or Grand Haven, MI state park and city park (connected, fairly close parking). All area beaches do charge for parking (unsure about GH city beach this year) except Pere Marquett Park Beach in Muskegon, MI. Do know ALL LAND along the shoreline beaches can be walked. This, however, does not mean all beaches are public swimming. It only means you are allowed to walk the entire beach anywhere. This can be important to know if your willing to take a short walk up or down the beach before swimming. This usually means no crowds as the thickest crowds usually remain closeest to parking and/or piers.

Yes, Holland State Park beach will be busy, especially in the afternoons and the holiday. The beach itself is large and has plenty of space, the issue is usually parking. If you go in the morning, before 11:00 you will most likely not have a problem. They will start turning people away when the parking is full, usually around noon on busy days.

Another option is Tunnel Park, which is 2 miles north of HSP. It is a smaller beach, but also nice.
