We are driving to Provincetown from Western Mass, on the day before Carnival...
-Is the traffic getting there, bad?
Driving isn't the issue, it is parking. You need to get there early. I have seen cars parked along rte 6 on those days.
I agree. Get there as early as you can and grab a parking place. And expect the private lots to be charging top prices.
You shouldn’t have more than the usual summer traffic on the day before the parade. The other posters were, I believe, cautioning for arrival on the day OF the parade.
You asked about the drive in the day before which, as Yellowbird says, should be fine. However others are concerned about your parking. Since you are staying over at least one night will your accommodations provide parking for at least one car? Hope so.
"usual summer traffic" on a Friday in the middle of the hot months to the P-Town from Western Mass is quite different from "fine' isn't it?
I'd have to at least caveat that one with it depend what time you leave. I haven't done it much but whenever I've driven to the cape on a Friday afternoon, or later, it's been really bad.
Carnival parade is always on Thursday so they will not be driving to Ptown in summertime Friday traffic.
Sorry about that. I was looking at the start day of Carnival Week.
Hank ... I think way back when, Carnival was one day so they put it on Thursday to get the weekenders there a day early. But things change .... until very recently I stayed in Truro that week ...
Carnival in August? As always best to travel very early or late when coming to the Cape.
Yes have lodgings in Ptown...
-And with the Carnival Parade on Thursday, we'll be arriving on Wednesday (leaving western Mass, 7-8am)...
