A group of 12 active 70ish women will be in Orleans, MA in May for 5 days. What would be some good day trips to do while there?
!) early may or late? it can make a differemce
2) interests? you didnt give any clues as to types of activities so whale watching isn't good for people who hate water, etc.
May 7 - 12 --- not sure you would ever get 12-14 women to agree on what to do but welcome suggestions! blue crab boat tours mentioned on one site! Some of very active --- others not so much.
Go to the very top of this page and input the town name (check a CC map) and 'Things to Do' to select what's right for you and the gang. You'll want to at least explore the Outer Cape towns. Also bring jackets and layer clothes so that you can enjoy a walk on the beach. Hope your dates include a weekend when more will be open. Have fun.
P.S. If you get the terrific guide book: An Explorer's Guide: Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket by Kim Grant you'll see that she has a snowflake icon to indicate places that are open in the off-season when you will be there.
How are you planning to get around? Will you have several cars?
Definitely go to Provincetown, and go to the Provincelands Visitor Center of the National Seashore.
Go to Highland Light in Truro and visit the Truro Historical Society house with its exhibits.
Stop by Truro Vineyards for a wine tasting or lunch.
Visit the Audubon Sanctuary in Wellfleet, then go to Wellfleet Center to see galleries and shops.
Check the National Seashore site for tours and activities available. The ranger tours are done at pace of slowest person. Also check the Mass Audobon for activities at Wellfleet site. Both have lots of activities.
Some sites to see 3 Sisters lighthouses, Highland lighthouse, nauset lighthouse - check for open times; Pilgrim tower in Provincetown; Captain Penniman house. Cape Cod Museum of Natural history in Brewster. Day trip to Provincetown to see the sights and wander the shops. Or short trip to wander shops at Wellfleet.
