girls weekend in Indy

We are planning a girls weekend next Oct. in Indianapolis. Do we want to stay at a hotel downtown? We like to go out dancing(rock or disco)at night. What would be the best area to stay so we could park the car and walk to entertainment? Any hotel suggestions? We like suites. Nightclubs and restaurant suggestions welcome too.

Yes stay downtown. That is where the best action is. there is a a nice Hyatt downtown and that would be my first suggestion. As for places to go, Try howl at the moon, great bar that has dueling pianos.

Your best hotel options are downtown. Depending on your price needs, the Omni Severin, Hampton Inn, Canterbury Hotel, Hyatt Regency, Crown Plaza or Embassy Suites (probably your best pick for suites) will put you closest to most clubs and restaurants - all within walking distance. On or just off Meridian Street south of the circle near Union Station you will find several bars/clubs, including Lotus, Tiki Bob's, Have a Nice Day Cafe, the Claddagh Irish Pub, Ike and Jonesy's, Jillian's, The Pub and Nicky Blaine's. There is a new afterhours danceclub called the Vault on Market Street between Pennsylvania and Delaware Streets. As for food, St Elmo on Illinois Street is the premiere steakhouse in town although Mo's and Ruth Chris also draw a crowd. Palomino on Illinois or Oceanairre on Meridian are good higher end places. If you like brewpubs, go to Alcatraz or the Ram on Illinois by St Elmo. Rock Bottom is near Washington and Illinois. You might also consider heading up a few blocks to Massachusetts Avenue which has several good small restaurants. If you want the trendy 20-something crowd, you should take a cab to Broad Ripple where there are several live music venues, clubs (the well hidden Red Room is the hot spot now) and eateries. I think if you are doing the weekend you should do one night in BR and one downtown.
