Tari region

We are due to take a highland tour by road beginning in Tari with a local tour company.

There has been tribal incidents recently and the U.K. government has issued a yellow travel warning.

Anyone been to the region lately or knows the reality of how safe it is?

Thank you

1. Re: Tari region

Travelling by road in the Hela and Southern Highlands provinces should be avoided. Locals who depend on tourism income will tell you it is safe but the area is very volatile and the highway is always the venue for any trouble arising. I would not travel that route for quids. Better to start your road tour in Mt Hagen (there are Huli groups in Mt Hagen who can do private wigman performances there if all you want is the photos), otherwise fly in to Tari from Port Moresby and fly out from Tari to Mt Hagen with MAF (they operate twice weekly flights) - your tour operator can organise this.
