Savaii - 5 nights should I change location

Thank you for these very helpful posts. Some advice please. I will be staying in a recommended fale on east coast of Savaii and had thought to book this for the 5 nights, enjoying Samoan life there and relaxing, travel about in a hire car to do walks and so on. But should I split my (first) trip to Savaii and also spend a few nights on the west coast at Falealupo fales where the snorkelling is better and of course the sunsets. My intention is to first spend 3 days in Apia first (including a Sunday) and to rent a car once on Savaii. Much appreciate the advice. Katherine

Hi Katherine.

When are you going? If it's relatively soon I would recommend booking both your accommodation and car now as this is the first full tourist season that Samoa has been opened since COVID and everywhere, cars included, is getting booked out very quickly.

I'd split the time also, that way you will get to travel around Savaii and see all the sights along the way.

On Savaii the most reputable car company is Jetz Rentz and they are in Salelologa near where the ferry docks.

I hope you have a great holiday

Dear Deb, I have appreciated all your helpful posts very much.

I'll check that the fales I'm staying in Lano have booked a Jetz car for me.

Quick question please. I read that the access to the Falealupo beach and fales is mostly sand towards end of the road and would be best with a 4WD. I doubt I'll have a 4WD or SUV so may just park and walk in fora day stay there.

I'm not so sure about staying in the fales there overnight, and the only nearby ones I see are Le Lavoto (above my budget and not available).

Are there others I've missed in that general area?

Thanks again,

Katherine

Hi Katherine

I'm glad you've found the posts helpful.

All I can think of that are relatively close to Falealupo are Vaimoana Seaside Lodge and Vaisala Beach Hotel which I absolutely love, it's small, quaint and tucked away on a little cove with a beach all to itself.

That's about it in the general area.

Hi Katherine, we stayed at Falealupo for a few nights over Christmas. Myself, 2 teenage boys and an 11 yo were squashed into a small Hyundai with luggage. Lots of small cars were on that road and there were no issues as long as you don't drive fast (which you can't anyway as you need to avoid the bumps, the dogs and the occasional pig). I don't think a 4WD was necessary. In fact, one of the owners of the Falealupo fale drove a similar car to ours.
