accommodation

Hello,

Looking at visiting in June/July next year with my 3 teenagers. Are wanting to stay on Savai'i for 5 days but having trouble finding accommodation. Does anyone have any leads of places that might have availability. The places on http://booking.com/tripadvisor all seem to have no availability. Hoping there might be a few places that I can book that aren't advertised on these booking sites. Appreciate any help.

Michelle

Hi Michelle

June/July being Australian and NZ school holidays means that places get booked out very early, particularly given that people haven't been able to travel for a while.

What sort of accommodation are you looking for? Hotel, fale, resort etc. Let me know and I'll see what I can find. I think most Fale properties would be sold out,

Also have a looks at the Samoa Tourism Authority website (http://samoa.travel) under "Plan & Book" and you'll get more up to date info. I just did a couple of searches on some resorts and one was booked out for mid June and one had availability in mid July so you may have to fiddle with your dates a bit.

Hope this helps, let me know how you go.

Cheers

2. Re: accommodation

Thanks for the reply. I have had a bit of luck. We are really looking at a range of accommodation to get the real experience. We have 8 days on each of the islands so looking at 2 different places on each. Hardest thing is finding places for a family of 5. Do you have recommendation on the best areas to stay on upolu? Looking at snorkeling/ relax time and some nature time doing waterfalls etc

Hi Michelle

If you want the full Samoan experience you could look at staying in fales. Taufua Beach Fales at Lalomanu Beach on Upolu would be able to accommodate a family of 5 but would your kids want to be in a fale together, otherwise you'd have to look at getting 4 fales or consider using their Mountain View Fales which are on a hill behind their property, they could have something that would accommodate all of you.

I'm assuming all your kids are over 12? A lot of places on Upolu have a "no children under...." policy.

There's also a lovely resort on the coastal road called Le Uaina that could cater for your family.

Others to look at would be Sinalei Reef Resort and Spa, Coconuts Beach Club and Return to Paradise, all have decent snorkelling out front.

If you want to experience nature, waterfalls etc you'd be best off getting a map and hiring a car or booking a tour as none are within walking distance of any accommodation.

4. Re: accommodation

Thanks Deb for your advice. 1 last question that you may or may not be able to help with. We are tossing up between taufua beach fales and manusina beach fales. Do you know anything about manusina fales and the beach there?

Thanks

It depends on what you're looking for Michelle. In high tourist season (May to Sept) Taufua is overrun by tourists, mostly because of the iconic Lalomanu Beach. Whereas Manusina is a little more laid back and typical of Samoan culture, still on a beautiful beach though.

If it was me I'd opt for Manusina but I don't like crowds.

The beaches are comparable.

Whichever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful trip
