Shop opening hours for groceries?

Kia orana. I've worked out most shops are closed on Sundays, but I haven't found what the regular closing time is during the week. We are arriving later in the day so working out if we have time to buy some groceries before shops shut or not.

Kia Orana M-AB, welcome to the Aitutaki forum.

The Neibaa store located in the eastern villages is open on Sundays. Like their Convenience stores here on Rarotonga, they open long hours.

Other grocery stores like Aquila and Rerei's in Amuri are open long hours also. What time does your Air Raro flight land on Aitutaki? Will you have time to shop for some supplies while you are on Raro beforehand?

Water is sold at Rarotonga airport, with the cafe located closest to the international arrivals hall being the best location. Or run across the main road to the RSA clubrooms which opens at 3pm and closes at 7pm for bottled water.

Kia manuia.

Many thanks for the information. Our flight arrives in Aitutaki at 4.30pm so all sounds good. I just wanted to make sure everything didn't shut at 5pm! We are staying near the Aquila store in Amuri so that sounds easiest. We only have a couple of hours between arriving from NZ and our Aitutaki flight so don't expect to get further than the airport that day. Thanks for the heads up on buying water. I hadn't thought about needing that. We will be there early April so not long to go!

Village stores on Aitutaki close in the evening. A lot of families rely upon getting food and supplies when they knock off work in the afternoon. And parents and caregivers also rely upon buying food to prepare school lunches, or taking a plate to a community function. Plus the stores rely upon pay day in Aitutaki. Same as they do on Raro and the other islands.

If you are wanting fresh produce, Aquila stocks fruit and veg. It is also interesting heading to the island market early to get the pick of the produce, and fresh fish sold there.

By April, hopefully the temps would have cooled down to a tolerable level. A nice easterly breeze is blowing this morning, which will be welcome. Been a very hot summer on the island. Aitutaki is warmer still.
