First time visiting

We are hoping to visit end of July next year with 2 children 8 & 9. Maybe for 3 or 4 nights either before or after Rarotonga. Any suggestions for 2 bedroom places or is it better to just do a day trip from Rarotonga and spend the extra nights there. Also how difficult is it to get around the island. Are there good choices for dining out ?

Kia Orana Sciona,

Taking the day trip to Aitutaki is much easier. Avoids having to book 2 lots of accommodation, and dropping your rental car off at the airport (unless you pay the parking fees to leave it sitting for 3 - 4 nights). Then potentially renting a car at higher prices on Aitutaki compared to Raro.

The longer you stay in Rarotonga accommodation the more cost-effective your stay on this island becomes. Sourcing food to take with you to Aitutaki, or eating out, becomes a factor for staying on both islands.

If this is your first trip to the Cook Islands, take your time to explore Rarotonga, towards a future trip. Weigh up the option from this experience towards arriving Raro and going to Aitutaki the same day next time. Jetstar landed at 6:35am a short time ago. The 8;00am flight is too tight, after border processing, but the 10:30am flight is comfortable for a domestic flight connection. Spend half of your next visit on Aitutaki first, return to Raro for the remainder of your Cook Islands stay.

Several rental houses on Aitutaki to review for future plans. Aitutaki beach villas near the Pacific Resort; Are Tai beach houses in Anaunga near Daily Grinds cafe, Ootu beach house at Ootu Point, the lagoon cruises, rental cars and Ootu cafes.

Kia manuia.
