Two rather unnecessary rude comments, above ^

Deepak, the weather and sea conditions,in Koh Tao, may not be the best in mid December, you might be better looking at the Phuket side, really hard to say for sure, but it's monsoon season in the gulf islands side...

Look at the top of each Trip Advisor Page (on Computer for the different areas regions) you'll get some ideas there.

You might want to look at the Phuket, Krabi (Ao Nang is the beach area for Krabi) or Khao Lak sections of the forum...

There are so many choices of things, it's probably better you just look around, the forum areas yourself and see what suites you! Also to get an idea of hotels in your budget range.

You really don't need a travel agent, if you take a bit if time to research!

So Deepak, 40,000 rupees is going to give you roughly 18,000 baht (a bit less) That's not a huge budget, if two of you, but doable if you choose less pricey hotels and watch how much you spend on food. It won't go far for day trips and excursions.

Exchange rates here: it will vary slightly daily:

As for Rail, the west coast is not serviced by rail, you would have to take a train to say Surratthani the bus across to the west coast, from Bangkok to Phuket, Krabi, or Khao Lak. It's a bit long and tedious, but perhaps you can get a plane from BKK, to Krabi (Ao Nang), or Phuket, try Air Asia. That will save two days of traveling from A to B and back, by bus and or train .

Look here perhaps to start:

You need to look, at the forum pages for more on those areas.

Can't you tell you Jim?

Posters like the OP hope they can get good hearted posters like yourself to do research for them, so that they dont have to lift a finger. Even after giving them suggestions to research, they completely ignore it and ask you to do more research for them.

Sometimes it's best to be blunt and straight out tell them to do their own research or pay someone to do it for them, or other wise they will just keep been lazy and expecting everyone else to do the work for them.
