Ski Holiday - Best to move around or base in one place?

Hi, i'm booking a ski holiday from 10th to 19th February. Currently thinking of doing 3 nights each at Hakuba, Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen.

Is it easy to get between each village? I am a little worried we will waste too much time travelling between them. Can I use my JR PASS to get around up here?

I have never skied Japan before, am i trying to squeeze too much in? Or is it good to see them all?

I am interested in both skiing and general Japanese tourism, such as Onsen and staying in Ryokan.

Thanks

There are many Ski Resorts in Hakuba area and in Shiga Kogen area, as follows. So, i think you don't have to move in these areas, but if you move go to Nozawa Onsen in addition.

Here are videos of the three resorts.

Thank you - i want to go to Nozawa as it sounds more "Japanese" than Hakuba and Shiga Kogen so i will probably do 5 days at Hakuba and 3 at Nozawa Onsen. More time to ski!

Please check the ski course maps. I would get bored for skiing 3 full days in Nozawa Onsen. Probably, you can touch & see Japanese culture and Japanese onsen village many during your whole trip.

If you lie skiing very much, Shiga Kogen is wider resorts and more ski slopes than Nozawa and Happo/Goryu/Tsugaike in Hakuba. (Hakuba has other smaller ski places that are spreading out.).

I suggest you to go Nozawa Onsen for 1 day skiing, Shiga Kogen needs 3-4 days for all, and 1 day each at Happo, Goryu, Tsugaike or Iwatake in Hakuba. You can't stay one accommodation for visiting 3 area resorts.

agree with Junechan in #3.

Nozawa onsen (NO) - max 2 days and optionally 1 day to nearby Madarao ski resort by shuttle bus in 1 hour.

Hakuba - if you're intermediate to advanced, at least 1 day in Goryu/Hakuba 47 and 2 days in Happo-One (with 2 Olympic courses and more runs than former) would suffice. I would not bother with Tsugaike where runs are more for beginners - it's long and super-wide though.

Shiga Kogen (SK) - at least 3-4 days. Many good runs and one can literally ski across mountains via connecting runs and ski lifts.

Last ski in NO
