I was set on vacationing on Contadora Island but I read some recent reviews that said the island has gotten pretty polluted, trash on the sides of roads and beaches, can anyone weigh in on this and tell me if you have experienced this problem.
Hi Mike, did you ever reach a view on this?
Does anyone else have any thoughts?
Trash in Panama is always a problem no matter where you go! Just put on your blinders and enjoy!
Went there in August 2017
Only one of the beaches had a little bit of pollution on it. ( Not enough to hinder us) It was one of our favorite beaches actually. It was Playa Largo the trash was limited to up by the wall of the abandoned resort. once you got down to the actual beach they are phenomenal and uncrowded.
I would rank the island beaches to be better than some of ones I have ever been to. I would take them of Grand Cayman any day.
I'm on my way for a couple nights, so I guess I will see.
Over the last 12 days i would say they need to clean up the garbage act of Panama,
No reason for this!!!
It costs more to pick it and deal with garbage after the fact. And if you are trying to develop tourism and attract snow birds and grow the economy better get a cleaner plan.
Edited: 6 years agoHave fun! The restaurant at Gerald's had awesome Mahi Mahi we were there to order pizza but as we were having a beer a local fisherman came walking through and to the back of the kitchen with a freshly caught Mahi so we decided to eat that instead! nothing better! Restaurante Y Bar Pimienta Y Sal was really good as well.
hey, what was your experience in the end on contradora?
It was dreamy. Beaches were beautiful. I don't remember any trash.
Playa Larga is spectacular but nothing there. Great to wander around for half an hour and check out the abandoned hotel and ferry.
Playa Cacique is great for a lazy afternoon with lunch and drinks service on beach beds under an umbrella. Water is very clear. You can wander round the beach for more secluded spots.
If you really want to find great beaches, get a fisherman to take you over to Isla Chapera. Totally deserted white sand with jungle and crystal clear water teeming with fish. Or go to Isla Saboga to hike the trails and find the secret beaches.
We stayed at Hibiscus House on Contadora and it was great. They helped us get around and were super relaxed and friendly. Casa Tortuga and Gerald's were great to eat. Definitely fly there at least one way, unforgettable.
Glad you enjoyed it and were not hindered by "recent reviews"
Still one of my favorite places I have ever been
We also took a boat to isla bartolome it is smaller than chapera but beautiful as well
Man I cant wait to go back someday
Not polluted. Less trash compared to other places I've been too. Walked bare foot on the beaches at Contadora.
