Bansak Merlin Resort

This looks like a new resort so has anyone stayed here that could give us some feedback on the location of the hotel, the beach and how did you rate the Merlin Resort?

Was thinking of staying at the apsara but this looks nice too..

Any current pictures would be great

Here are pics of the new Merlin from when we had a look around at the end of January until we left at the end of April this year when the resort had its first guests under its soft opening https:/…

The resort is about 400 metres north from the Sentido Gracelands on Bang Sak Beach with just a few beach restaurants and massage places in between and already others being built and a mini mart near its entrance. It is the furthest north currently of all of Khao Lak's beach resorts. Just past it at the tip of the peninsula is a large shrimp factory. The resort's frontage is built up on a retaining wall overlooking the beach which along this stretch is white gritty sand littered with small rocks and dead coral which are on the near shore sea bed too.

We were shown some of the rooms which were very well furnished and equipped. Superior rooms are at the rear of the resort overlooking a pool whilst the De Luxe ones are at the front overlooking the main of three pools.

It is about 25 minutes by shuttle or taxi to the centre of Khao Lak.

I certainly like Pakarang Beach more which the Apsaras overlooks and which you can see pics from last year of and Apsaras in the background at https:/…

The accommodation at the Merlin is IMO superior to the Apsaras main hotel but the private villas at the Apsaras are excellent. There are just a few restaurants along the road from the Apsaras and Memories Restaurant and Surf Club facing it on the beach and where you can see the fire show in the pics. It is a 20 minute or so shuttle or 300 baht taxi ride to Khao Lak Centre.

Thanks again ... great advice.. although both hotels are a little out of the centre I assume it's easy enough to do excursions? We'd like to visit the elephant sanctuary, some temples , the floating village I've read about etc

There is a good travel agency Rak Talay near to the Apsara. Not aware of any near the Merlin (yet) but there is one down the beach near the entrance to the Sentido Gracelands Resort.

There are plenty though in both Bang Niang and especially Bang La On, the two main resorts where you will be able to shop around for what you want to do.
