Hi,

MY name is Boris and I own a lovely house with large garden located in quiet Bulgarian village Koprivets. While I was surfing on internet I found a blog and decided to offer everyone who is interested to invest in Bulgarian real estate:

The best advice I can give is to visit Bulgaria and spend a few weeks seeing the country. Many expats opt for village life but find the reality very different to their expections. In rural areas services are generally very limited, with many villages having few shops, bars or restaurants. Although people in the Bulgarian countryside are usually very friendly and welcoming, few will speak English. Be prepared for a sense of isolation, particularly in winter when some communities are cut-off regularly by snow. You may also need to consider access to medical care or good schools if you have children.

Saying all that it is a great country to live in. It's cheap, hot and laid back. Do your reseach on the internet and employ a lawyer when you buy a property.

One other suggestion. Why not rent for 12 months before buying ? That way if you don't like it you have not burnt your bridges. You can pack your bags and return to the UK.

Good luck.

Best,

Paul

My parents moved over a few years ago and love it. They live in a small village about 30 minutes away from Burgas which they find ideal. The villagers are very friendly and there are a few other Brits there. They have a couple of shops and bars in the village and there is a restaurant in the next village. If you want 'the good life' growing your own food, animals etc then a village would be good as many houses are on large plots. There isn't much to do in the villages though so can be too quiet for some people used to the hustle and bustle of cities and towns.

Take the advice above and take the time to visit different areas and spend a bit of time there to get a feel for it to see if you would enjoy living there. There are many forums online that are full of expats and people considering the move. Brits in Bulgaria is the one my parents still use now.

Just seen Pauls advice above and one thing I would suggest is don't buy a home unless you are 100% certain you will he happy there as it will he so hard to sell on. Many brits that bought homes in the same village as my mum have moved back to the UK but can't sell their houses. This is more of a problem in villages as the Bulgarians are moving out of the villages to the cities for work.

One thing to remember is it may be beautifully hot in summer but it is very cold in winter and snows. Sometimes it can be hard to get out of villages

Our friends moved to Sofia two years ago. They enjoy living there as things are more affordable and lifestyle is easygoing. I visited them last month and agree with their perspectives. However, many foreigners mentioned that it is good for a few years but not long. This can be personal but can be worthwhile paying attention to.

I suppose it is best you go there for a week or two to see how things are and if you can adapt to the society/culture.

Good luck!

Hi, I live in burgas with my husband and three children.

Location is key to moving, knowing what you want in the way of lifestyle. Think about what you may need in the future ie hospitals, schools etc.

Do plenty of research and visit different places. Most importantly follow your heart. There are many people out there that will try and put you off. As long as you are realistic, understand the pro's and cons, live the dream today as you only have one life.
