1. Re: Are there tour operators stationed at the cruise port

Hi, and welcome!

The short answer is YES. The slightly longer answer is - Stanley is a very small city, population about 3,000. If several thousand cruise ship passengers arrive at the same time, there may not be enough tour operators to go round.

However, it is very easy to explore Stanley on your own, and there will be shuttle buses (or taxis) to take you to nearby penguin colonies and scenic beaches.

Hope this helps. When are you there, and what ship are you on?

We will be in Sydney on November 12th aboard a cruise ship. Where do you get the shuttle bus to Gypsy Cove to see the penguins? Is there a cost? Thanks in advance.

Hi, do you mean you'll be in STANLEY? If so, the shuttle buses operate from beside the public Jetty in the centre of town, and next to the Tourist Office. There is a charge, a few dollars, maybe 20. But it is well worth it!

Yes I meant we will be in Stanley. Do you know if the shuttle takes us to Gypsy Cove to see some penguins? If not, is there another place in Stanley where we can see penguins? Thanks for responding.

Hi,

All the Tours and buses leave from there (unless you are on a small expedition ship at the dock about a kilometer away).

There will be people with boards saying which tour or bus they represent. Don't worry. It is a very efficient operation. The shuttle buses go regularly to Gypsy Cove. It takes about 20 minutes.

Many times. They breed there, between September to March. . They live in burrows!
